1. The people who are smart enough to plan ahead can generally speaking return fire. Like me

2. The feral humans that won't or can't return effective fire generally speaking not prepared to survive past this afternoon!

Re: EDC - What is your min survival gear list
No, I don't carry it, and yes, I keep it in my car, but I also consider it as an adjunct to my bugout bag, which is much bigger and more aimed at "survival" stuff.nyj wrote:But you don't carry it. I've been prepping in layers, if you will. Layer 1, the minimalist layer, is the EDC kit I keep in my car. Layer 2 is the bugout bag, kept at my house. That's a decent sized backpack with a lot of stuff in it, including things like water filter straws, camp stove, etc., etc. We also have portable shelter. Layer 3 is the guns and ammo part for protecting ourselves and what we have, and also ammo reloads for barter (and also so that I can steal the food that LightningRocks03 steals from other people

The thing is, this is not all just "doomsday" stuff. When I lived in California, we had a fairly extensive earthquake kit in our home. Anyone in California who lives near an earthquake fault and doesn't keep a well provisioned kit is a fool who deserves whatever happens to him. Heck, even the government urges people to have an earthquake/disaster kit. California also has lots of brushfires. If you live in an area threatened by periodic brush fires, you need to have a "grab and go" kit to get you through the next few days if forced to evacuate until police and fire departments allow you back into your neighborhood. Here, it isn't earthquakes, it's tornadoes. . . . .and brush fires. It just makes good sense to have some supplies on hand in case you find yourself without shelter, food, or protection.
In the event of a "social adjustment," I'm always going to bug-in before I bug-out anyway because I'm not going to bugout without my wife, and I'm calculating that I won't have that much trouble getting home. The stuff in my car is just handy stuff that might make things a bit easier. If I get home, then the EDC kit will go into my bugout bag.

Not to hijack but, my order for two 15 packs from the micro tools vendor above got me two P38s. I have sent them a note. We'll see what comes of it.The Annoyed Man wrote:15 pack, $2.65 - http://www.amazon.com/G-I-P-38-Can-Open ... can+opener

My minimal survial gear list on an EDC level?
1). Kershaw knife (rotating a few)
2). Streamlight Microstream
That's all that I'll hazard to put in my pockets on an everyday level other than the standard wallet and keys. I keep a bag of stuff in the car which is loaded down pretty well with 21st century survival items.

Re: EDC - What is your min survival gear list
What do I carry besides my gun? My backpack, though the bulk is work stuff, usually contains a few "bars" of food. I've got water and a heavy winter jacket out in the car. I'm aware enough of local roads and geography to be able to get home from pretty much anywhere within a day's walk (maybe two) without getting too lost (and without consulting the map app on my phone). There's a first-aid kit at work that I could raid in an emergency, but I should probably get something to keep in my car. My cell phone's battery is usually pretty charged (one of those backup battery cases is on my to-get list). In the short term (say, less than a month), nothing particularly life-threatening would happen if I can't take my medications. Oh, I've got a knife in my car.
I think I'm fairly good for something bad happening anywhere I'm likely to be. Can anyone think of anything I'm missing?

I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.
