EDC - What is your min survival gear list

Post by Syntyr »

Hello all,

Been wondering what do you carry as your minimum survival or prep gear everyday. Now I am assuming from the boards that EVERYONE carries their pistol of choice and spare rounds but what I am after is what do you carry on or about your person every single day that you consider your minimum survival gear? Can be as small as what fits in your pocket or do you drive around in your truck for your job and carry a full load?

Me I work in an office and in my brief case (which is generally speaking available to me 24x7) I carry the following:

Magnesium Fire Starter
Zippo
Compass
Flashlight
Pocket Saw Rope
Life Straw water filter
Leatherman Multi Tool (knife, screw drivers, pliers you get the idea)
Steel mirror
On me I carry My everyday knife a ZT 305 or Twitch II. I have been debating on adding some medical supplies to it but didn't want to make it too big. Everything in my list fits into one of the small pockets in my briefcase. If you care to share what do you carry as your minimum? Thanks

Since I work in a tall office building I thought about a parachute but I figure I would get dirty looks from the rest of my cube mates :cryin

Seems like there was a thread with a lot of detailed info on this subject last year. Someone who works the search feature better than I could find it.
ETA: found it. A little older than I thought.

I don't see why you would need half of those things if a problem arises in an urban environment. Do you plan on stopping by a creek for a sip of water while you make your way through zombies on your way home?

This stays under the driver's seat of my car:

Image

In the slots, left to right:
  • Stanley combination screwdriver
  • Whistle
  • Zipper type LED light
  • Sharpening stone
  • Mini saw
  • Folding razor
  • Spinter Tweezers
  • Mini pry-bar
  • Piece of aircraft cable with threaded ends
  • Mini compass
  • Mini "peanut" lighter
  • Mini multi-tool
  • Space pen
  • Signal mirror (in the black corder container
  • Diamond knife sharpener
  • Mini LED flashlight with a diffuser
In the two big pockets behind the other items:
  • Handwarmers
  • Paracord
  • Dental Floss
  • Titanium Spork
  • Spare folding reading glasses
  • Waterproof note pad
It's all carried in a Maxpedition E.D.C. Pocket Organizer — http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/E-D ... -7p961.htm — and fits easily under the car seat.

I also carry other items on my person, but those are principally a high lumen flashlight and a good folding knife, in addition to whatever pistol I'm carrying that day.

The thing is, I've actually opened the kit more than once to avail myself of something in it when I was away from home, so it has actually proven itself handy.

I will add about my list above, the OP asked what our EDC consists of. I have a bugout bag with a lot more stuff in it next to my back door, but the above kit is what actually goes in my car with me everywhere, everyday.

Prior to cell 'phones and plastic money, there was a P-38 and a couple of Jacksons in my wallet. A couple-three cans of Chicken Noodle/Viennas, and a roll of quarters were in my bag.

Now, its whatever is on my body and in my pockets. To paraphrase Bill Jordan, 'If you got to go get it, most likely it'd be too late.' He made sense then and that line of thinking would seem to still apply.

I forgot. . . . my kit above also has a P-38 in it. Plus, I have about 25 of them in my bugout bag for use as trade items.

:iagree: Great idea! I used to have a bunch of them, but don't even know where they are.

Thanks. Good idea as "trade items". Just bought some. Good stocking stuffers too!

You'll notice that my EDC kit is not really a survival kit. It's a kit full of handy stuff that won't fit in my pockets.

Oh, I forgot to add that it also contains a pair of curved hemostats. . . . . .
