I would not carry that. RFID is hackable - and easily jammed, too. This won't keep someone from "taking your gun and killing you with it," because RFID chips have a longer range than people realize, and most "social encounters" takes place up-close, well within the range afforded. Jammers can block the signal, rendering the gun useless. Batteries can die, disabling the firearm. Likewise, any of the other "smart gun" technology is easily fooled or broken. Placement of a magnetized ring? What if you're wearing gloves? What if that hand is injured, and you have to use your off-hand? Fingerprints? Please; fingerprint scanners on iPhones and computers are iffy enough, and they have processing power. An instant reader on your gun won't work most of the time; it hardly ever works on more powerful computers. Plus, blood, sweat, heat, cold, and gloves can all foil it.AndyC wrote:I promise to give it my careful consideration once police officers have proven it on-duty for a few decades as standard equipment. Same with all the armed services, too, come to think of it.The Annoyed Man wrote:
That's not safer; that's a fatal disaster waiting to happen.
OTH, it will relegate the handgun to casual plinking and range work.......which is exactly what the liberals want.
And all that completely ignores the sometimes-vital question of, "What if someone else -needs- to get hold of my gun?" What if my wife is home with the kids when someone breaks in? Will she be able to use my guns? What if she's injured or worse, and the kids have to defend themselves?
Which brings us right back to "what's the point?" It certainly isn't safety.
I will never own one of these disasters-waiting-to-happen. Guns need to be dumb, and gun owners need to be smart, not the other way around.
