As for the rest... I have no problem with officers being able to detain and/or report to ICE subjects they know to be illegal. I have no problem with officers asking basic identifying information, such as place of birth, that might reveal that the person is here illegally.
I do have a problem with police or other authorities being able to demand "papers" proving citizenship. I'm fair skinned, blue eyed, and struggle in Spanish. But there are many citizens of Texas whose ancestors have lived here since way before it became Texas, who are native-born citizens, and whose English might not be much better than my Spanish. If they're (legally) standing on a corner waiting for a contractor to hire day labor, with nothing more than a Texas driver's license in their pocket, why should they have to prove their citizenship?
