How I do it : Gear for sighting in - Sand bags, my wife made mine out of black naugahide. I use the 100 yard rifle sight in targets, when I set up on my bench ( it's nothing more than cinder blocks stacked 4 high and 5 feet long or so) I make sure both the front of the stock and the rear of the stock are supported by sandbags ( this reduces shooter error ). I sight in at 25 yards, dead on center of target. When I do this, I make sure the group is perfectly centered on the target, even a small deviation at 25 yards will make the point of impact off at long distances. That's it. The rifle will be sighted about 2" - 2.5 " high at 100 yds. I used to shoot them at 100 yds. just to make sure, but I don't bother anymore. The crucial part of this is making sure you are perfectly sighted dead on at 25 yards. I've seen people let a POA that's 1 inch off at 25 yards go as good, and then end up shooting at game at 200 yds. and missing, or worse yet, wounding them and not recovering the animal.
