I like the idea of the PMR-30 more than I actually like it. I have fired two five sevens and one pmr30. The five sevens worked great and the pmr30 I fired FTE about every 4 rounds. A guy I know has one and says his has the same problem.

Some people say the 5.7x28 is the same as a 22 magnum. I know 5.7x28 is far from the greatest self defense round but I know its better than a 22 magnum. Ive shot plenty of pests with a 22 magnum rifle and only one with the five seven pistol. The pistol did a heck a lot more damage. The pests Ive shot with the 22 magnum pretty much have to small holes but the coon I shot with the five seven was pretty bad.

Even if they are similar, which I know there not, Ill take a centerfire over a rimfire anyday.

Has anyone done a side-by-side comparison, with gel testing, of the Five-SeveN and 22-TCM pistols and cartridges?

I don't know about side by side, but Gun-Tests has also done gun tests in that caliber. That's a good question.

And then there's this:

Here is 22-TCM versus 5.7x28 penetration testing:

And 5.7 versus .22 mag into ballistics gelatin. It gets real interesting at about the 13 minute mark. The 5.7 had a couple extra inches of penetration, but the .22 mag wound channel was a LOT bigger, and it still penetrated 15"

Isn't the 5-Seven the gun used at Fort Hood? That seemed particularly devastating.

I've been next to one at a range and that little round is loud!
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

Yeah it is pretty loud. I've been asked twice what I was shooting while at the range with it.

I know two folks that started carrying the 5.7 when the drug wars were hot due to it's ability to penetrate a Bullet Resistant Vest.

Only SS198 will penetrate common bullet proof vests like a 3a.

Both these men are in the position to get any ammo they want. They are also familiar with the capabilities of any given round.

Yes, it was the gun the Shooter used at Ft. Hood. IIRC he also had 20 (!) magazines on his person as well.

The gun is large (great sight radius), light, holds 20 rounds, and is its on "flashbang" with the loud report and fireball at muzzle.
Easy to shoot, anyone can turn this into a laser pistol with a little practice.
(Geek Alert: BattleStar Gallactica Series DID turn it into a laser pistol HA)

in 1989, NATO wanted a Personal Defense Weapon (PDW) that was light, accurate, better ballistics and range, to replace the 9mm.

FN delivered first, the 5.7x28 round. With it, they developed the P90 PDW Rifle.
Next was the FiveSeven Pistol, this was the pistol designed to compliment the Secret Service when they are fielding the FN P90
The round met and exceeded NATO Specs, but 'Germany and Others' said no to making it the Replacement for the 9mm.

The P90 is fielded by over 40 Countries, and we have several LE agencies like the Secret Service, US Marshals, ICE, even Addison and Houston Police Depts that use them.
