FNH 5.7x28
I tried searching but was unlucky, if there are previous discussions please do point the way.
With that out of the way, what are the experiences, thoughts, input on those that have acquired, purchased, carried this pistol?
Appreciate any and all input.
My day to day carry has been an S&W .38 Special +P Bodyguard in my front pocket. While it is quite comfy - almost to the point of not noticing it - in light of recent events I think I would like more. I have a Glock 17 9mm that I can carry in an IWB holster as well as a shoulder rig with 2 mags. Another option is my Kimber .45 Compact Aluminum with 6+1 and a few mags.
The lightweight of the FHN along with the lightweight of the loaded mags and the ballistics of the round are quite intriguing.

I'd have (and sometimes carry) one, if I could afford it.
I am not a lawyer, nor have I played one on TV, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, nor should anything I say be taken as legal advice. If it is important that any information be accurate, do not use me as the only source.
Re: FNH 5.7x28
I carry mine but not often. It is pretty large but that does not bother me as I sometimes carry a Glock 21SF. One pro would be that it is real lightweight. The only thing I have killed with it was a coon. It made quite a nasty wound. I have been thinking of taking a hog with it.

One con would be magazine holsters. You will find Atlantis before you find one of them.

Re: FNH 5.7x28
This was often discussed amongst some guys I used to know in Coronado, who are, you might say, professional shooters. The consensus seemed to be the FNH 5.7x28 was nothing special or extraordinary, a fad maybe, with no particular advantages over commonly available and long used calibers.
Their mission profiles might be different than ours.

The FiveseveN is one of those guns that folks seem to either love or hate. Usually the guys who have them say their the best thing since sliced bread and the guys who don't have them would rather carry a rubber mallet into battle. My advice is to not get too caught up in either praise or abuse and try shooting one.
I am a big fan of this pistol. I have one and have carried quite often over the last few years. I load it with T6 or SM4 ammo from elite ammunition and use a crossbreed holster. As was already mentioned, magazine carriers are impossible to find so be prepared to carry reloads in your jacket pocket. The gun is extremely accurate and very easy to shoot with very little recoil. I can easily hit man-sized steel plates at 100 yards without a rest. It has a loud report and a fair bit of muzzle flash, but everyone who sees it wants to shoot it. I have never experienced a failure of any type.
One thing that is a little different, at least for me, is the position of the safety. It is disengaged with the trigger finger. At first this seemed weird to me, but with a little practice, I found it to be a very natural motion, particularly if you are using proper tactics and operating with your finger off the trigger and along side the frame. My finger tends to naturally rest on top of the safety requiring only a simple flick on its way to the trigger.
For shootability I give it a "10". It is not too hard to carry as it is very light, but it is on the big side. The balance is good and the weight distributes well with a good holster. It breaks down very easily for cleaning and goes back together with no fuss.
I hear a lot of folks, including guys I shoot with, knock the round as being an expensive .22 magnum. I understand that position as most of the time we civilians have to shoot the neutered sporting rounds. Loaded with the full tilt ammo this gun was built to shoot though, it is a serious piece. I have found the T6 ammo to perform well.
I carried this gun for awhile on the border when the drug war was out of control. Lately I haven't been carrying it much and have opted for a smaller EDC, but with the current events I am going to put her back in the rotation.

Well, I know that Karder isn't a [the other word Colion Noir used], so he must be a hipster.PUCKER wrote:thank you all for the replies...and the video

I've often thought it would be cool to have one. To the point that Karder made about .22 magnum, I also have thought that a Keltech PMR-30 could be fun too. Of the two, I've no doubt that the FiveseveN is the better gun (if my SCAR is any indicator of FN build quality). I agree with Colion Noir's assessment that it is difficult to pigeonhole this pistol for most users, but I recall Karder posting a long time ago about how he felt that the FiveseveN was a better fit for his field work around El Paso than having an AR in the truck..... in part because it was easier to carry a concealed holstered pistol than an openly slung AR, and a concealed pistol in hand beats an AR in the truck.
Gun-Tests Magazine did a comparison between the PMR-30 and the FiveseveN back in November 2011 (http://www.gun-tests.com/issues/23_11/f ... s=GRDetail - requires subscription to read the whole thing), and they said both that the Kel-Tec compared favorably against the FN, and that the .22WMR compared favorably against the 5.7x28 in a testing medium. I'd have to give the jacketed 5.7 bullet the advantage, but being totally frank, that is just my prejudice, and I can't back it up. Capacity favors the Kel-Tec by 10 rounds....... TEN!!!! (30 compared to the FN's 20). Actual obtainability seems to favor the FN. I've seen a number of them over the years, but I've only ever seen one PMR "in the flesh". But if I had to bet my life on the gun, I'd probably take the FN. Again, that's just personal preference and is for the most part entirely subjective.
But, and this isn't a reflection on the gun, but rather more a reflection on budgetary realities, I probably won't buy one anytime soon. I've been EDC'ing a Glock 17, and at least 1 backup mags. I've added +2 round extenders to all of the magazines, so I'm carrying 39 rounds of 9mm..... 58 rounds if I carry a 2nd spare mag.... plus an AR with 5 30-round mags stored in the car when I'm traveling any distance..... so I think I've got rounds on hand covered, even if the weight is a bit more.
