The safe guns are wiped down about twice a year. My carry pistols are field stripped and clean after every range trip (about once a month) and if I don’t get one of my carry guns to the range then I field strip it wipe down and re-oil the needed parts about every two to three months.
If not careful you forget your EDC and you will have lent and whatever else built up in it.
I'll just add that for carry guns, I never clean or lube them BEFORE a range trip. I also make sure that the first rounds fired from it are the rounds that have been sitting in the magazine that's in the gun. I want to prove to myself that that first mag would have functioned flawlessly if I had even had the misfortune of needing it. If there are any issues with that, I would strongly reconsider my choice of carry guns.

I do this as well. Very first thing when I hit the range is safety checks, then slow and deliberate draw from concealment to check draw, presentation and bang as expected. The way I see it, I would much rather know at the range what is going to eventually get a 'click' than without testing at all. That goes for the safe guns too.
EDC gets wiped down and visual check once a week. Other than that range time keeps me from building up too much lint over months of time.

I do dry-firing practice during the week, so my M&P and ammo get a visual in spection often. Otherwise, my M&P lives in its Safariland ALS. I have been going to The Range at Austin frequently, since getting 30 free range visits for taking their two-day Pistol 2 class. For this type of practice, usually 100 rounds, I do not clean or lube the pistol before, just after. I do unload my self defense ammo and load FMJ. For training involving 300+ rounds or more than one day, I will check the pistol carefully. The first mag for training is the self defense ammo I have been carrying. So, my usual range trips confirm that my pistol works cold and firing a mag of self defense ammo at least once a month confirms the ammo. Works for me.
