...I've never been asked to step out of my car in Texas...had to re-train myself to stay IN the car...in La, we'd always ask the driver to step out...in Tx, seems the WRONG thing to do...but when the red lights come on(OK, blue)...I'm going to do WHATEVER the officer asks me to do as far as in or out and not needlessly cause his bladder to be irritated...

I dont know what the law is but I know I dont like being told to exit my vehicle for a 6-10 mph speeding vilation, just do not see the justification for it. I am safer inside my vehicle than out of it.

Remember, the LEO has the option of giving you a ticket or a warning. If you are just being "normal" then you are not being polite enough to the LEO. You need to give them a reason to NOT give you a ticket, because you have already done something that would warrant you getting a ticket. You have to remember, at least where I live, a LEO doesn't make any more money if he/she writes you a ticket or gives you a warning. (They get contact points). If they want me to stand on the side of the road and do 10 push-ups ( I actually saw this happen on that TV show Campus PD), I would rather do that then shell out 200-300 bucks.

I have been asked to step around to the back of the vehicle. Then they put a flashlight in my eyes and ask me If I had been drinking...LOL. Fortunately, I had not. But some of the others being swept up in the checkpoint were not so lucky.

I have experienced all of the above when being stopped. Stay in the car, sit in the front seat, step around to the back... I just go along with the cop, hoping I will get a warning. I usually am guilty as sin for the violation. My only shot is to throw myself on the mercy of the cop because the courts won't have any. All of the city cops who have stopped me around town tell me to stay in the car. Getting out of the car always seemed to be while on the interstate highways in the middle of nowhere.

Big deal. Take DD to get out of the ticket and get a break on insurance. At my age, the insurance discount pays for the DD class and my time.
I believe the basic political division in this country is not between liberals and conservatives but between those who believe that they should have a say in the personal lives of strangers and those who do not.

Big deal? Ever been pulled over twice in one year? DD only works 1x/year.
Like Lightning said, I too am usually guilty. (Usually... I've had my unjust stops too)
Whether guilty or not, I'm at their mercy and a little courtesy can save me $150 of court costs and DD costs, plus the 6+ hours of my time. My 'ego' isn't big enough to pay that price every time. I'll do whatever the heck they want unless my rights are being violated, and last I checked, getting out or staying in, didn't violate anything.

Of course I will follow instructions to stay in my car or get out. But I'm not afraid of getting a ticket for the reason I said. That's my opinion but I forgot for a moment about some of the really bad drivers on the road.
