Getting pulled over question
Didn't know where to put this one since it is pretty general.
So, if you are pulled over and for some reason can not roll the window down, is it better to open the door before the officer reaches your car or wait with your hands on the wheel and let them open it?
I can see arguments against both. If you open the door early the officer might think you are coming out to fight. But, I don't think coming to a fully closed up car is going to leave the officer in good spirits either.

IMO, keep your hands on the wheel.
When the LEO approaches, tell them your window doesn't work.

Why don't you just get your window fixed?

Stay in the car, engine off, 4 ways on, front wheels turned to the full left, dome lights on, hands on the wheel, little to no movement inside the car, make eye contact with LEO as he comes to your window, and as soon as possible after his first instructions or before if he does not give them immediately tell him (her) your window does not roll down.

Re: Getting pulled over question
Although other suggestions here are good if you should find yourself temporarily in a situation where you can't roll down the window, the officer will be on high alert during the stop. This is likely to tilt his citation / warning discretion toward the former.jmra wrote:Why don't you just get your window fixed?
A citation for whatever he stopped you for is likely to be more expensive than fixing the window.
Getting the window fixed before you get stopped will give you the best results.

Maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but why wheels full to the left?bronco78 wrote:Stay in the car, engine off, 4 ways on, front wheels turned to the full left, dome lights on, hands on the wheel, little to no movement inside the car, make eye contact with LEO as he comes to your window, and as soon as possible after his first instructions or before if he does not give them immediately tell him (her) your window does not roll down.
Seems like that would make for a faster gat away

Makes the car go in a predictable direction when it is hit from the rear while pulled over on the side of the road. Though, different departments teach full left or full right.PappaGun wrote:Maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but why wheels full to the left?bronco78 wrote:Stay in the car, engine off, 4 ways on, front wheels turned to the full left, dome lights on, hands on the wheel, little to no movement inside the car, make eye contact with LEO as he comes to your window, and as soon as possible after his first instructions or before if he does not give them immediately tell him (her) your window does not roll down.

If turned left, it would get pushed into trafficbronco78 wrote:Makes the car go in a predictable direction when it is hit from the rear while pulled over on the side of the road. That is assuming your pulled off to the right.
I think I'll stick with somwhere between 0 and 90 degrees.

Re: Getting pulled over question
It's about the safety of the officer, not the motorist. There are probably more LEOs injured and killed by cars than guns.PappaGun wrote:

Re: Getting pulled over question
It simply depends on the tactical decision of the LEO parking the car,, in relation to where the person stopped and parked, other traffic and more.PappaGun wrote:

Left or right just depends, straight ahead is not one of the choices in general.
