I'm all packed up and ready to go. I plan on being on the road by 7:00am. I'll check both sites before we head out. Probably wear a Beretta Hat, tan shirt, glasses. My wife is taggin' along. she is willing to tape targets and such, but won't be shooting. (This Time)

c'ya there,
Rick

I managed a late arrival to today's shoot at Lone Star, and put some rds downrange with NcongruNt. good times. he and I are going to carpool down to the match. I can offer 2 more seats if you're not in need of much legroom (compact car). we depart his place near 2222/Lamar at 8.

looking forward to meeting everyone!

packing now. fingers crossed for no rain.

KaProw, you beat me to it.

BAH HUMBUG!!

Mike's notice on the Texas Tactical said the road was 6 feet underwater.

For those who haven't been there, the range is in a beautiful location in a valley with a lovely little creek (most of the time) with some fairly steep hills at the edge of the hill country. Great scenic place to shoot but obviously subject to flash flooding in this kind of weather.

Didn't the Good Book promise we were not going to do the 40 days and 40 nights of flooding again? Gosh, it sure seems close to the limit.

I really regret not gettiing to meet and shoot with you folks. Let's try it again sometime before long.

That is a bummer. I was ready to come out and had talked my son into coming out to meet me.

I think this time he is just going to see the sewers all back up instead of the full 40 days. Bill Cosby gave him the hint.

I think we should try again for one of the August matches. Do you think the Saturday or Sunday is better?

Sunday is always a more reliable day off for me. However, it looks like Saturday, Aug. 18 and Sunday, Aug. 26 are both good for me.

Anyone up to try it again on one of those days?

FYI, Mike Webb runs a fun Carbine Match on the first Saturday of the month,

These are run generally on the IDPA rules and scoring and are a HOOT! You still use cover, shoot on the move and score just the same. If anyone has an AR type, AK, Mini-14, Camp Carbine, M-1 or what ever long gun, tricked out or basic, and need to blow out cobwebs it is a lot of fun. He has one coming up on Saturday Aug. 4. If you are interested, you can read more on the website. You will also want to take your sidearm as there are often some transitions from one to the other.

No, I am not a paid promoter...just a fan.

The 'bah humbug' was for not being able to go shoot, not becasue you posted the cancellation notice first. I guess I could have phrased it better. Sorry for the poor wording, I can see how it might not have come out as I had intended.

Of course you, and everyone else is invited. I really enjoy this the Texas Tactical group and IDPA generally. I encourge folks to come with or without an invitation. As Mike says, all ssfe shooters are welcome, regardless of experience or skill level. The guidelines are 1. Be Safe, and 2. Have Fun.

Well, I got some practice time to myself for a few hours on Saturday until fenster showed up at about 1:00. We shot some steel and did some drawing and moving on paper targets. We shot each other's guns and called it a day at about 2:30. As predicted, all the rain stayed 2 counties west of where we were, so it was dry all day. Too bad more of you weren't there - I would've gotten to spend less money on ammo and more time talking. ;-)

Too bad IDPA was canceled for Sunday, I was looking forward to it. Hopefully we'll get to go next time around.

NcongruNt actually invited me but unfortunately I'm out of town currently. BTW, that van looks familiar, were you at the THR Austin shoot a few months ago?

Another place tht may be closer than Texas Tactical for IDPA is the Temple Gun Club. They host an IDPA match once a month and they are located only about 40 minutes from north Austin.

http://www.templegunclub.com/

The info on their website is a bit out dated. The date is every 3rd Saturday 9:30AM, cost is $20 or $15 if you are IDPA member. They have a carbine match (free) after each IDPA match, so bring your rifle too. I can't find the MD's contact, but PM me if you want that (would somebody who knwos post ?)

Yes, I was at the THR shoot. You shot my PA-63 and my Mosin-Nagant 91/30, if I remember correctly. I'm the one that brought most of the steel.

Looks like the two places are about equidistant from me in central Austin. I'll have to look into going to the Temple one sometime.
