CCW Near Public School on a Public Road??

We live in Houston and our home is in a subdivision that has had pasture that backs up to our place, and up to the ~1 mile long entry way Public Street that is how people get into the subdivision.

My questions are: The Woodlands is now building a new large development and they are going to build a school that will be school yard property that will come right up to the property line of our subdivision's public street.
Can I continue to CCW on the street even though I will be within ~50 of a school property? My wife and I walk each day about 6 miles and I am not sure if this will be a problem?

Also, I am not sure, but it is possible that school property might be up against our back fence as we have about a 1 acre back yard?? What about me carrying at home which I do all of the time?

Not sure if it matters but we have lived here over 5 years and like I said - when we bought the property there was cattle grazing out back.

I presume you are asking because of the 1000' Federal "Gun Free Zone" around schools. Your CHL exempts you from this provided you are not in violation of other Texas statutes.

In addition, the "Gun Free Zone" does not apply to private property.

IMHO, you could lean on the fence while carrying, even if the cheerleaders were practicing a foot away on the other side. Your private property is obviously distinct from the school grounds.

Don't go onto the area (practice field, etc.) of the property during an "event" and your fine. I would stay away from open carrying on your own property if the school property comes up to your fence or close. I only take that position because of the hassle and negative attention you may get. Another city may be fine but not there. That is all just my opinion.

i dont agree with that. You are only fueling their fire IMO. You need to protect and exercise your rights, not cower them away because its easier. I think you need to pick your battles and this is an easy battle on your own property. Why should that city be coddled? i dont flash my guns around and actually am low key to prevent ideas of theft. But, i didnt hide them when the police randomly drove by either. I smiled, refrained from waving (might have been bad) and walked in the house.

I believe Shootthesheet was endeavoring to "protect the right." Flaunting firearms in the face of schools is not a good idea. You may recall it was school shootings that fueled the public furor that caused gun bans in Scotland and Australia. If you want the locals to fear a Columbine in their own back yard, where it hits home and counts the most, just hang on the back fence with open carry. There is a difference between cowering and using your head.
