Looking to Purchase a 1911

I sold my 3 Kimber 1911 Raptor's last year. I had one in each size. I am looking for a new or good condition 1911. I had pretty good luck with Kimber but did have to send the 4" model back due to inconsistent feeding. They fixed it up and problem went away. Cost is somewhat of an issue. I am looking for something in the 3.5-4" category for a daily carry. I need to hear about some forum recommendations for 1911's. Please help.

Honestly for the price I’d take a look at a few of the rock islands or Rugers. I’ve owned a couple rugers and they were fine pieces. The rock islands tend to be cheaper but seem to work. And don’t let made in the Philippines fool you. They have been making 1911’s for a long long time.

You'll probably be perusing the internet, but Hickok 45 does a review of the Tisas made 1911 I believe imported by SDS and Paul Harrell does one on the Rock Island (Armscor) 1911. I have a Kimber 1911, but I also have a Charles Daly 1911 that was made by Armscor. The Daly has never missed a lick.

Might take a look at a Dan Wesson. They may be a little more money up front but they won't need a trip to a good gunsmith to address triggers or any other shortcomings of a Springfield or others. I speak from experience with the Springfields (two TRPs and a Trophy Match). They all needed work so they went to Ed VanDenBurg. He got them all tuned up but there was a cost. I have some Dan Wesson Valkyrie 45 ACP (aluminum frame) pistols. None of them needed any attention from VanDenBurg out of the box. One of them is the practice pistol and I have fired 15,000 + rounds through it since I got it trying to see how an aluminum frame will hold up. I can't see any signs of wear and the function has been 100% reliable feeding 200 grain lead SWC bullets. Shop around if you want a 45 ACP, deals can be found on those.

I agree. I sold a Wilson Combat and bought two Dan Wessons and have never looked back.
