Gun Show Prices

Post by puma guy »

Ventured to a gun show yesterday which I haven't done for quite a while. I wasn't interested in new gun prices and just perused some used firearms. I sort of keep up with used sales prices at online sellers and data bases, but some of the prices I saw on guns that I own was mind boggling. There was Model 925 Marlin bolt action .22 that had a price of $375. A Star SS .380, which I also have was tagged at $599. I also ran a cross a couple of Marlin/Glenfield .22's A Model 25 with no bolt and a 1978 Model 60. The 25 was $150 and the Model 60 was $400. The bolts for vintage Marlin .22 rifles run about 110-140 bucks. I thought to myself at those prices I should liquidate a few guns. I know the asking price and sales price are two different things, but the starting point is indicative of how ridiculous things have become. (which I will never actually do) I didn't see a single Smith revolver under $850 and that was a couple of Model 36's. Every K and N frame I saw was $1300 to $2200. The only sane prices I saw was a guy selling vintage Winchester lever guns in collector condition. The worst part was when I got I home I remembered an auction on which I was intending to bid. It was over when I got home and several on my watch list went for a song.

The past year I’ve gone to a few shows mostly just to kill a Saturday. Sometimes just to put my hands on something that I’ve been interested in to see if it feels like I think it will in my mind. Most accessories are still reasonably priced which at this point in my collecting is what I mostly buy. Plus where else are you going to find the smoked cheese and meat 😁

You’d do better going online for ammo. Gun shows prices were the worst.

What I looked at was extremely high. Much better deals online sellers if you watch and wait. I replenished most everything I was short on, 38 Spcl. .40 S&W some 9MM JHP and .380. I am still looking for .44Spcl/.44 Mag. I missed a pretty good deal (for these days) from one site. I saw one guy selling rubber pellet and ball shotgun shells by the 5 pack for $20. You can get it online for 40-50 bucks per box of 25.

I buy all my ammo online bulk. I was just wondering what the gun shows ammo prices were. I haven’t been to a gun show in over 15 years. I can just imagine it has changed he’s a lot.

Funny enough not really. I’ve been going on and off for 40 years, if I had to say what changes I’ve seen it would probably be a lot less military and old wartime stuff and more basic firearms. Of course way back when you pretty much had a choice between revolvers or 1911’s and rifle’s. Oh still tons of knives and optics and such.

 I didn't see any food vendors there. I didn't even think about that. The convention center did have a snack bar, but I don't know who was running it or what they were offering up. .
