The state of Illinois and Kansas City, MO with some assistance from gun control groups, sued "JA" for illegally selling their cheap handguns.
The article doesn't exactly spell out the details. The LEO's stated that JA handguns were used in crime a lot more than their market share would indicate.
Although I can't find a link now, I had read that Everytown for Gun Safety, or somesuch, had bought all the assets of "JA" when they went bankrupt.
That's kind of a novel concept, if true, that a gun control group would attend an auction and buy up the machinery to make handguns.
If someone else can find this link, please post it.

sue a company, then buy the assets cheap at auction ... maybe i should sue coke for causing cavities, then own/buy Coca-cola

The bid to purchase the firearms, made public Thursday, comes from the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund — a gun violence prevention group co-founded by former Democratic presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg. Everytown Law, the organization's legal team represents the plaintiffs in the two ongoing lawsuits filed against Jimenez Arms.

Given that the PLCAA is still in force, a lawsuit against a firearms company may be brought, but the success of the suit depends on whether the firearm was defective, as detailed in the earlier case against Bryco. In that case, a 7 year old girl was killed by a defective Bryco firearm.
The above articles do not mention the alleged illegality of JA's distribution practices, in the latest suit, so we armchair (non JD) analysts have no idea if the allegations made in the lawsuit will move forward to trial, or will be thrown out based on PLCAA law.

I think I have a Jimenez .22 LR paperweight. NIB! The box is probably worth more than the gun.

I have a Bryco-Jenings Jimenez .380 that was my dads. I have not and will not ever fire it. It feels like pot metal Oh, maybe there is a gun buy back in its future. Hmmm
They went after them on the premise of defective firearms? What company has not made a firearm where some of them weren't defective? Some even recently?
Everytown will probably make some big deal out of destroying the equipment to make those guns as a publicity stunt.

I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.
