M1 Garand ammo, surplus.

Post by stever1950 »

WTS M1 Garand ammo in original wooden crate. Enbloc in bandoliers. Crate reads top to bottom: 121.51 - 111.2, 624 ST, a crown and under crown HMAK, 7.62 mm Patron, M/48, Lot: 01-AMA-80, BR: 25Kg, RP: 0.025 m3 (cu meters I assume). They will stick to a magnet so assume plated steel or steel core. In person sale only, I don't trust UPS,etc. to handle old wooden crate... I live in Conroe and will drive a reasonable distance (100 miles) to deliver. I don't know how to put up a picture here, but if contacted on email I can do that. Email is sfrtx1950@gmail.com.

How many rounds and how much $ might help?

A pistol without a round chambered is an expensive paper weight.

According to the crate I believe it 624 rnds. I checked around and can't find anyone that has it for sale so I don't know what a fair price is. On Ammoseek the closest I found was a can of Korean for 90 cents per round. The crate itself is a collectable and I have found the bandoliers for $10 each.... Last time I saw this for sale was a few years ago and it was starting at $1 per. I don't expect that much, I think maybe $400 or best offer.

Not to detract from your ammo conversation. On Jul 13 (Sunday) we were in Tomball Tex. Went to eat at Goodman's. The food there is very good. Since you live fairly close to there i thought i might mention it to you'.

I haven't been to Tomball in ages, but if I should get the chance I'll check it out.

7.62 is not the normal cartridge for a M1, that would be 30.06. Is this the crate? That's 7.62 NATO made by a defunct Danish company.

What's it say on the cartridge headstamp?

Here's one at auction.

M1 Garand
Semi-automatic rifle
The M1 Garand or M1 rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was the service rifle of the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. The rifle is chambered for the.30-06 Springfield cartridge and is named after its Canadian-American designer, John Garand. It was the first standard-issue autoloading rifle for the United States. By most accounts, the M1 rifle performed well. Wikipedia

"Patron":
While the term "patron" can be confusing, in this context, it likely refers to the standard or pattern of the ammunition, signifying it's a common and widely available type.
