What's sad is people think there isn't enough "security" or police around. They will never realize that there is never enough police around and never will be. I guess people don't look out for their personal safety anymore.http://www.click2houston.com/newsarchiv ... detail.htm
HOUSTON -- A man was shot to death in the parking lot of a southeast Harris County grocery store and his car was found burned out several hours later, officials told KPRC Local 2.
Harris County sheriff's deputies said Baldev Sharma, 72, was found dead outside the Food Town on Scarsdale Boulevard near Beamer Road at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Witnesses said two men approached Sharma in the parking lot.
"After only a couple moments, shots were fired by the black males," Sgt. R. Nelson said. "One of them struck the decedent."
Erica Hypolite was working inside Food Town at the time.
"I came over here and his body was over there on the ground. There were a lot of people, and his family screaming and crying," she said.
One of the men got into Sharma's car and drove away while the other man ran away, witnesses said.
burned out in a park near state Highway 288 and Loop 610 South several hours later.
The grocery store was open and filled with customers. Store managers declined to comment about the killing.
Witnesses told investigators that the men were black, 16 to 20 years old, 5 feet 9 inches to 6 feet 2 inches tall with thin builds and short hair.
"We have a couple of witnesses that said they saw them and they believe they saw them well enough to identify them," Nelson said.
Schepp's Dairy has offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the men's arrests in indictments.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Man Killed In Grocery Store Parking Lot
As the holiday draws near, I don't think I need to remind everyone to stay in condition yellow. Things like this can happen everywhere because criminal will make sure they will have a good holiday. This particular one is hitting close to home in SE Houston.

Am I the only one that is impressed that Schepp's Dairy is fronting a reward for the arrest and indictment of the perps? Not the grocery store, but the grocery store's dairy provider. I guess some companies still have good old-fashioned values.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

A little background on the victim:
From The ChronSharma joined HPD in 1988 and spent 17 years working in the department's crime lab before retiring in 2005. Soon after he was hired, Sharma, who had advanced degrees in chemistry, was picked to help set up the crime lab's DNA section.

I used to be content with leaving my carry in the car when I went into my local grocery store. After reading this article, that has changed. I realized that if something is going to happen, it will probably be when you are returning to your car with a load of stuff and simply wouldn't have time to unlock the car and retrieve your weapon. Letting go of the cart and accessing a carry piece is so much faster!
What really tears me up is the fact that they killed the guy, took his car and abandoned it so close to where they robbed the poor man. One guy didn't even bother to take the short joy ride and simply walked away. Sleeze is sleeze and I wouldn't hesitate to do my part to rid the world of this kind of vermin given this situation.

Events such as this that appear to be random may in fact be something entirely different. Think about it. The Victim was retired from HPD. His work certainly put a LOT of people behind bars.
