The Texas State Fair--my experience

I had some family in from out of town this past weekend, and we decided to head down to the State fair on Saturday. I had been reading the info posted about it, so I was pretty sure I knew what to expect--a delay at the gate waiting for someone to come check my license before being let in.

I get up to the gate, and the security guard sort of points their wand at my sister and then waves her through, then the other security guard wands my left pocket and it goes nuts--had a wad of keys in there. Didn't ask me to take them out or anything. Then the right pocket, just below my holstered 229. It goes nuts again, had my cell phone there. Again didn't ask me to empty my pockets. Neither time did they even ask what was in my pockets.

Then they just waved me in.
:???:
So there it is.

What's the point of all that security?

Maybe the fact I was pushing a stroller with my 2 year old in it helped.

While I appreciate the fact that I didn't get held up at the gate, I was grateful having my firearm knowing that anybody can get in with one.

*sigh*

Security at an event like the Fair is a sheeple feel good move at best. As we have seen many times security is a myth, anyone that really wants to get into a secured area will find a way.

We see this reality and decided to be prepared.

All it was was "feel good" security...

It is there only to make people feel safe...like sticking the ghostbuster anti-gun signs up

I had the same experience, more or less. I had my wallet out, they ran the wand over me and it beeped pretty hard at my waistline (pistol IWB on my left, mag OWB on the right), but the security guy didn't even pause - just waived me by. Anyone who thinks these people are actually doing their job is sorely mistaken. :???:

The moral of the story is??? [insert chirping cricket sound effects]

I hope no one thinks telling the State Fair organizers the details of these encounters is a good idea???

Loose lips sink ships... ;-)

As long as they feel like they got our bowels in an uproar...Fine...
