Used FEG PA63 9x18 for sale

Post by dukalmighty »

I was looking at the J&G Sales website and noticed they are selling used FEG PA63 9x18 makarov handguns in good to very good condition for $99.95 each which seems like a heck of a buy, if you are on a budget. It says they are used Hungarian Police Pistols

I bought mine from AIM Surplus. They come with 2 mags instead of one, and are listed in excellent mechanical condition and very good+ to excellent finish. J&G does have extra mags for sale, which would still put it about $10 under for equivalent equipment at slightly lesser condition.

Some things to be aware of with these pistols is that DA pull is very heavy at about 20lbs, and a lot of people have trouble with that. I have pretty strong hands, so it's not an issue with me. Also, something this light with blowback mechanics in a Makarov round has quite a bit of recoil... so much that most people I take shooting for the first time move on to another gun after a couple of mags. People with larger hands will probably get slide bite (as I did). I've adjusted my grip over time, and it's no longer an issue.

Practice ammunition is available, though you're pretty much limited to S&B/Silver Bear/Wolf. It's also more expensive than run-of-the-mill practice ammo in other calibers like 9mm. There is some Winchester available, but it's simply S&B ammo marked Winchester at a higher price. S&B is the only stuff I see available at larger stores, and only at places like Cabela's/Sportsman's Warehouse. Generally it runs $8-$10/box. Academy and Wal-Mart do not carry 9x18 ammo. The gun wasn't designed for anything bigger than 95gr. ammo, so stay away from the bigger stuff - it will cause undue wear on the slide, and hurts to shoot. I accidentally bought a box of 100gr. Wolf for mine when I first started shooting and it made the recoil almost unbearable.

For SD ammo, you're pretty much limited to Hornady XTP. None of the other manufacturers of modern JHP ammo make anything in 9x18. The XTP is very nice ammo, and it feeds beautifully in mine. There is Silver Bear JHP ammo available, but the steel cases and issues with the design of the bullet cause the PA-63 to jam frequently, particularly on the first round of a full mag.

All of that said, I do like mine. It is my BUG when I carry one, and is my primary carry when I need something more concealable than my Hi-Power. I usually carry it when I'm wearing a suit or am in shorts and a t-shirt.

I have never shot one and wasn't aware of the heavy trigger pull ,I had seen ppl talk about the .380 model and thought the price range seemed decent enough as long as the firearm was reliable enough for concealed carry.
