need holster ideas
okay, Ive only got the fobus holster and it pretty much sucks. I might go with a smaller firearm in the future, but want a solution for my G23 now. OWB are out of the question, its too hot here and Im always hot natured and never wear large/warm clothing. I wear short sleeve unless its snowing kinda guy.
anways, these Ive looked at:
1. IWB holster
2. possibly shoulder harness (that I would wear between undershirt and over shirt)
3. undershirt made w/ holster slot built in
now. Im think the IWB will be uncomfortable. In addition, my waist size varies a few inches throughout the year. And the harness seems like it would move too much under my shirt and be noticeable. The last one is simply needing a few of them, if I plan to wear daily.
any recommendations? Im 6'1 and about 220lbs.

Ken Null makes a lightweight shoulder harness that might work for you. I think his website is http://www.klnullholsters.com/ but don't quote me on that....

Go to http://www.comp-tac.com and look for the Minotaur MTAC tuckable IWB. It is a great holster, and if you want to change to a different pistol without buying another holster you can buy just the Kydex body for the new gun.

Ahhh, the old holster question. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has a dresser drawer full of holsters bought while searching for just the right, most comfortable, most concealable holster for ME.
Unless you are a very lucky guesser you will travel that road too.
But over the years I've learned a few general things as well as what works best for me. In general terms I find the following to be true: Carrying a concealed handgun is like being with a woman. Variety is the spice of life.
Although I've been faithfully married to the same woman for 36 years I have practiced what I preach when it comes to the carry weapon and holster issue.
Carrying the very same gun in the very same holster is, asside from being boring, is just not practical. I have 4 guns that I carry depending on the temperature and weather, the way I need to dress, and what activities I may be involved in. And I have several different ways that I carry for each one and for the same reasons.
I mainly carry the G-36. I have IWB, OWB, and shoulder holster for that. I also sometimes carry my G-23 with the same options. I have a little .38 snubby with a custom grip that has the hook that make it ideal for carrying in the waistband, boot or pocket without need for a holster of any kind. Lastly I have a little KelTec P32 that I have a pocket holster an IWB and an ankle holster for.
Yes, I have spent some money. But I now have exactly what I need for every situation I encounter, what ever I carry.
My shoulder rigs include a custom FIST-INC virtical rig with double mag pouch for the G-36 and an uncle Mikes nylon horizontal rig for the G-23. For IWB I have the Bianchi Model 100 size 11 which fits both Glocks and a small leather rig for the KelTec. For OWB I have a Bianchi slide for the G-23 and a FIST-INK custom made #8 Closecropped shortcut for the G-36. I have an Uncle Miles nylon ankle rig for the little KelTec.
Hot or cold, rain or shine, driving, walking, shopping, partying, what ever. I'm all set.
Just be patient and take your time. You will eventually get it right.
EDIT TO ADD: Part of making the decision to carry a handgun entails acknowledgement that you will have to make concessions to dress to accomodate your weapon. For IWB you will want to get a size or 2 larger in the waist band. For OWB you will want to start wearing your shirt untucked or a jacket etc. It is not that big a problem but you do need to give it some thought.

thanks for the replys guys.
I think I will try some type of shoulder holster first. the other options just dont seem feasable, as I can think of a few situations (i.e. getting in/out of car with ease, easy drawing whether sitting or standing, etc). I might save the IWB for when I get a smaller SA or revolver.
thx again

I am 6.5 and 290 lbs. I hate to wear shirts not tucked in I just think it looks sloppy. I wear a deep concealment holster. It is a wrap around, that wraps around the chest area, the pistol (sig pro 2340) is just under my right arm pit area and is not noticeable at all. I find it very confortable and am really happy with it.
Have the same gun. I have been through several but I am pretty happy with my C-tac infidel IWB http://www.comp-tac.com/ct_infidel.php and my Galco OWB http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterG3.asp?Pr ... 9&GunID=49

Check out the Desantis "Tuck This" holster. This is what I use for my Glock 27 and it works well with a shirt tucked or untucked. Another reason I like this holster is that it holds a spare magazine. It took me a little while to find the right spot to wear it, and now I use this one nearly every day.

I found a new website called packing heat in mcallen tx. they carry Bianchi and Galco brands of holsters everything from IWB to Paddle to Shoulder rigs, under dealer cost, i just bought an Bianchi Model 100 leather IWB for a 3 1/2" 1911 for 37.95 MSRP is 52.00 and S&H is 7.00,they stock the holsters onsite with approximately $250,000 in inventory
I ended up getting the deep concealment holster. feels cheap but holds the gun well surprisingly.
im still gonna get a IWB holster like this or similar.Bill wrote:Have the same gun. I have been through several but I am pretty happy with my C-tac infidel IWB http://www.comp-tac.com/ct_infidel.php and my Galco OWB http://www.usgalco.com/HolsterG3.asp?Pr ... 9&GunID=49

Long wait for them, but definitely worth it.
