'Tis the season and the incidents of robbery are about to go up. So don't forget about situational awareness. And oh yeah, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.Woman Robbed Outside Houston Mall

HOUSTON -- Before heading out to start holiday shopping, a robbery victim has a warning, KPRC Local 2 reports.
"Look around," she said. "Don't talk on the phone like me."
That's the advice from a woman who was robbed at West Oaks Mall in west Houston on Wednesday afternoon.
KPRC Local 2 is not releasing her name in order to protect her identity.
She had just parked her car outside Macy's and was getting out when a man approached her.
"I was scared," said the woman. "So many times I pay attention, but this time, I talk on the phone with my friend. When I heard the young guy in the car, he said, 'There, there!' A young boy come to me and he pulled, he take the bag. And I say, 'No, no!' I saw his gun in his hand."
She said she offered her money, but wanted to keep her purse. The robber pulled her across the parking lot. She has cuts on her arm and face.
"He pulled the purse," she said. He pulled so hard. I rolled on the floor, sliding."
Next time, she said she will stay off the phone, go with a friend and pay attention to what is happening around her.

If you don't stand for something, then you will fall for anything.

This is something that we all need to watch out for. Especially with the holidays coming up.
These are things my dad taught me:
1. Drive around the parking for awhile do not just park in the first spot you see. Look at who and what is around.
2. As a woman, even though, I carry a gun I do not park by Big SUV's or Vans of any sort.
3. Keep your doors locked and look around before you get out.
4. I do not carry my purse during the holiday season. I carry a fanny pack and wear a belt, my fanny pack has a spot where the belt can loop through, when going out to places where there will be a lot of people.

Good advice anyway; I once came way too close to a nasty incident with an off-duty LEO because I was paying more attention to fixing a wiring problem (in my apartment parking lot at a bit before 6AM) than what was going on around me. He walked to within 6ft of me (tactical mistake on his part) and then spoke (not identifying himself first could be seen as another tactical mistake) and I went on immediate adrenalin overload with the knife I'd been using still in my hand. I spotted some sort of uniform (and the hand on the gun) but in the bad lighting it looked like a private security uniform, so I was still half-expecting to have to wrestle some mall-ninja with a Rambo complex. Luckily both of us had the sense to stop, let the other see that we were stopping, then back down to non-threatening postures.fm2 wrote:"Don't get task fixated in public spaces"

Would you as a CHL holder been legal in drawing a bead and center torsoing that badguy that was attacking that woman?

Sec. 29.02. Robbery.
(a) A person commits an offense if, in the course of committing theft as defined in Chapter 31 and with intent to obtain or maintain control of the property, he:
(1) intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly causes bodily injury to another; or
(2) intentionally or knowingly threatens or places another in fear of imminent bodily injury or death.
(b) An offense under this section is a felony of the second degree.
9.32. DEADLY FORCE IN DEFENSE OF PERSON. (a) A person
is justified in using deadly force against another:
(1) if he would be justified in using force against the
other under Section 9.31; In this situation, it is likely that 9.31's requirements have been met
(2) if a reasonable person in the actor's situation
would not have retreated; and Retreating would do no good under the circumstances
(3) when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary: So not if you have another way to stop him that would not expose you or others to unnecessary risk, but that's unlikely in this type of situation.
(A) to protect himself against the other's use or attempted use of unlawful deadly force; or
(B) to prevent the other's imminent commission of aggravated kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, robbery, or aggravated robbery.

I don't carry a purse often but now when I do it's my "Mugger's Purse" I talked about in this thread. http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... gger+purse
So now as far as I'm concerned they can have it if the situation arises and it might give me a chance to get away unharmed or the chance to get my weapon, which I carry in a IWB holster.
