competitive shooting in houston area?

Post by mdek »

I've been shooting for a while now, and I'd like to try some competitive shooting along the lines of IDPA or IPSC, or anything similar. I don't really know where to start, but I'm looking for a good place for a beginner. I've looked at TexasIDPA.com, but still don't really know where would be good to start.

I'd also like to find somewhere near where I live. I'm in the Medical Center area in Houston, and as far as I can tell the closest place that has this sort of stuff is at Top Gun, with IDPS. Anyone have any experience with that? Any other recommendations?

Go to http://www.whidpa.com there you can find a google map with all local IDPA shooting opportunities.

Go to http://www.tacticalshooters.com Gary has links to a bunch of local clubs

Go to http://www.texassouthsection.com/ for USPSA clubs in the area.

Bob

We also shoot a multi-gun match the second Saturday of the month at the ImpactZone.

Greetings--

I've spen some time shooting with the three groups of folks@ the Top Gun range. IDPA- style on Sunday (4-6p) and TH evenings as well as with Greg Garrett on Tuesdays.

Fun folks--nice range.

I too work in the Med Center. I've been trying to slip out of work early and go out to the WHIDPA @ Impact Zone on Wed nights.

Shooting opportunities near Houston

Let me recommend a visit to:
http://www.psc-range.com

The club hosts IDPA and USPSA competitions as well as a wide variety of other, fun matches: Trap Skeet, 5-stand. Silhouettes (small bore, big bore, handgun, rifle) Bowling Pins, Man-on-man steel, PPC, and so on.

All events are open to members and non-members alike. Lots of fun and excellent opportunities to both socialize and sharpen your skills.

Cheers,

Norm

Definitely try Thunder Tactical Shooters north of The Woodlands. We like getting new shooters started in IDPA. However any of the clubs in the Houston area are good. I like PSC. Great range.
