HOUSTON -- An innocent shopper was killed during a robbery and shooting at a Fiesta store in north Houston. The robbers are still on the run.
Police say two gunmen wearing ski masks burst into the Fiesta on Fulton at Patton just before 9pm Friday. The gunman tried to get into the store's courtesy area, but an employee told them he did not have a key.
The robbers exchanged gunfire with a security guard, who was hit. We don't know the guard's condition right now. A woman who was at the checkout line was also shot. She was taken to Ben Taub, where she died.
The store was filled with customers at the time.
Police say the robbers drove off in a stolen minivan. It was later found several blocks away. Blood was found inside the van, but police are not sure if the suspects were hurt.
Officers say the men were picked up by someone driving a dark Lincoln Towncar. They're still on the loose. Police will review surveillance video for more clues.

I was actually right around the corner, maybe a half mile from the store that night... pretty crazy. A friend of mine and his wife bought a new patio home in the area, and while their small little block of $300k+ homes is nice just right around the corner trouble obviously waits. He'll be taking the CHL training course in just a few short weeks... he is ex-Army and has been meaning to anyway but this got him off his butt.

Some good news that came out of the story (if you can call it that). The innocent woman that was killed was slain with a bullet from the robber's weapons and not that of the brave security guard.
