Does anyone have some feedback on a seecamp 380? Reliability, accuracy, customer service?
Please don't post about how easy it is to conceal a 5" 1911 or that all defense rounds should begin with a "4" or other such. I like my .45s and understand these points. However, the idea of an extremly concealable and very light weapon has its merits. This appears to be about the smallest one I can find.

I've carried my Seecamp .32 more then any other gun simple because of it's ease to carry. I'ts shot every time I pulled the trigger, so I would say very reliable. As far as accuracy goes my take is I pull it out and either stick in a perps eye socket or I'm on the ground and I stick it to their groin and unload it. I wouldn't think of it as anything but a last resort to staying alive. I sure wouldn't want to deal with anything past arms lenght with it.

I've got a .32 Seecamp. Can't comment on the .380.
Reliability: excellent with the right ammo. You'll have to experiment until you find the load your particular gun likes.
Accuracy: Minute of wash tub at 10yds. Its a belly gun not a match gun. Difficult to aim. Just point and click.
Customer Service: Only had one issue so far and it was handled very well.
Carryability: excellent! With a proper pocket holster you will find yourself carrying it a whole lot more than the 1911. Its a dream to carry.
Maintnance: A snap. Field strip is easy once you learn the technique.
The .32 is a handfull when shooting. I've heard the .380 is a little beast.
If you go with a Seecamp be sure to shoot it quite a bit. It needs to be "broken in".
Seecamps have a couple of quirks unique to them.
NEVER squeeze the trigger without the magazine inserted. You WILL damage the trigger spring if you snap it without the mag in place.

Hope this isn't too far off topic for you. I looked for a Seecamo 380 for a while, but didn't feel like being gouged $$$ for "instant gratification" or waiting months for one to arrive. Did alot of reasearch on the 380's, and didn't find anyone saying anything bad, other than how long they had to wait... I'll probably order one at some point, but in the mean time, I found a used Rohrbaugh R-9S that semed like a good alternative.

Slightly larger than the Seecamp, the R-9 is still a true pocket pistol. It lives in a small Nemisis holster inside my front pant pockets most of the time. It's not a lot of fun to shoot, but is surprisingly accurate - I can shoot <4" groups at 7 yards in "semi rapid" fire on a regualr basis. (By "semi rapid" I mean as fast as I can bring the front site back on target - just takes longer than my usual due to recoil...) Point of impact relative to point of aim varied quite a bit with the ammo selections I tried, but once I found a brand that "shoots straight", it has been consistant from box to box. Only issues I have is the factory recommends replacing recoil spring every 100 rounds, the thing is a bear to strip, and once in a while it looks like I get a round that keyholes. (And yes, after 100 rounds, the old factory recoil springs are obviously much shorter than when new. Factory just released a new spring design, so we'll see if it will hold up longer.)

The chart at the link above shows relative sizes...The R-9 is about 1" longer and <1/2" taller than the 380. Although the dimensions don't look much different on the chart, for me the R-9 is much easier to pocket carry than my PM-9. Putting the PM-9 in my pocket feels like I'm carrying a brink around...

Don't think you can go wrong with a 380, but just throwing this out as an option.

I can't comment on the Seecamp .380 either, I have a .32 and it it flawless. It is a CQC gun, accuracy is good for a gun of this size but marginal at long distance. For the cost
of the Seecamp .380 you can find a more affordable choice.

I plead guilty. I have a 5" and 3" kimber in .45 acp which I love and are comfortable to carry. OTOH, I am 100% sure that I would carry more often if I had a small pocket gun.

I know a couple of SWAT team cops. One carries a .32 Seecamp, the other a .32 KelTec, about 1/3 the price of the Seecamp if you can even find a new one. I can't imagine any reason why a .380 gun in either brand would be a bad choice except that for my general impression that .32 caliber feeds better. Myself, I like the assuredness of a j-frame revolver, although it does not hide as well.

Went ahead and bought a seecamp .32. Will shoot it hopefully this week and will report back.

I have a full size 1991A1 all steel...carry just fine with no probs of conceal...I don't understand how you can say they are hard to conceal when MANY people choose to carry them

Depends how you have to dress for work. I'm a 1911 fan, but if you have to be in tailored slacks and a tucked-in dress shirt--and be expected to look slick--it absolutely AIN'T functional to try to conceal a 5" steel 1911 unless you choose to wear a sport coat at all times. And since you might be the only one out of hundreds doing so, that too might look a little strange and draw unwanted attention.

If it isn't a workday, you can bet one of my Kimbers is on my hip. But if I'm all preppy and tidy for the office, it will not work. I'll bet a lot of CHLers are in that same boat.

I didn't say I couldn't conceal a 1911. I said all in the balance in my suburban life here in 2007, the likelihood that I'm going to carry if it means carefully dressing around a 1911 is minimal. Beside, I've got a 3" Kimber that's quite easily concealed.

All that said, it's inane to compare the ease of concealing my seecamp with that of concealing ANY .45 1911. It's simply inarguable. I realize the level of firepower is also inarguably different, but life's a compromise.

If I go into areas I'm less familiar with, I'll go with an OWB kimber, for grocery shopping in suburbia I'll risk the seecamp.

Skiprr, I conceal a 4" springer champion model while dressed in dockers and a golf shirt or a dress shirt at work. Usually, I don't wear the .45 on the days when I know that I have to appear at the courthouse. I use a VM2 with the clips that allow the shirt to be tucked over the weapon and use a beltman belt. I always carry my S&W 642 .38 in my pocket.

Just FYI. I was surprised at how comfortable and concealable the weapon was with the proper equipment.
