shooting on private property

I realize this is probably an obvious question, but I try to not to assume anything with firearms.
I have never fired a pistol off a range. We have family land in Halletsville (near shiner) and I'd like to go try out my new glock this weekend while I am there.

I intend to be very careful about "blue sky" and ensuring some sort of backstop behind my targets. Any thing else I should worry about, safety or legally speaking?

Impact zone beyond backstop...if you whing ding one off..and a few hours later you neighbor shows up with a dead horse that you shot...ruh roh!

Make sure there is PLENTY of un-inhabited impact zone behind your backstop unless you can guarantee 100% no rounds will miss

I frequently shoot on my family land. At over 600 acres neighbors are not a problem. I created a small berm to ensure bullets did not travel miles and practice typical gun safety. Otherwise, local game warden looking for illegal bird hunters was the only encounter I have ever had. Of course, I knew the warden and was happy to see he was looking after our land. Now he just calls me if he hears shooting out that way on weekends!

See if there's a county ordinance limiting shooting. Many counties have their ordinances online.

As long as you're outside city limits and your bullets don't cross property lines, I don't think it matters. You're still responsible for all the bullets, though.

i would be willing to pay, along with others i bet, to do some target practice on someone's land. i have many many empty grey goose bottles we can scatter.

Just don't make the mistake of shooting into a stock tank/pond thinking the bullets are going down into the water and will be safe. They're capable of skipping like stones and going quite a distance. Doesn't sound like you planned to shoot towards any water since you mentioned several berms but I just thought I'd throw it out. I know I used to shoot at water mocs in the stock tanks at my dad's farm and never gave it any thought that the bullet could skip and possibly kill one of his cows or a person who may be out and about (I was in high school and had NO training in firearms...shot a little .22 rifle that my dad had....a cheap little single shot, not sure why he had it but it's in my closet just as dirty and unkept as it was when I was a kid....yeah, I know, I need to get rid of it along with my grandpas old broken shotgun).
