Trying to avoid thread drift here.
A couple of years ago, before this forum existed, a resident of Connecticut who was moving to Texas e-mailed me with a question: Texas CHLs specify NSA (non-semi-auto) or SA. No other state makes this distincion, AFAIK. How does this apply to reciprocity with other states?
I called DPS and was connected to a lawyer. He said that the Texas law applies only to Texas CHLs, and not someone from another state with reciprocity.
He also told me that fewer than 2% of licenses are NSA.

They had two seperate CHL's in North Dakota for revolvers and semi's...that is before they stopped making us fire.

Re: NSA vsersus SA licenses and reciprocity
When in Texas, an out-of-state concealed carry permit (whatever the other state calls it) that is valid in Texas and would allow the holder to carry an SA in their state counts as an SA CHL for that purpose. If the licensee is restricted to revolvers it is of course treated as an NSA but few if any states other than Texas still do that.seamusTX wrote:I called DPS and was connected to a lawyer. It gets hairier when you think of an NSA CHL from Texas and its acceptance in other states. That poses some real toughies: Is it valid in a state that does not differentiate between revolver and semi-auto carry? Does the NSA license when used out-of-state grant you the right to carry a SA in the other state?
In any case, I think it's just better all around to get an SA license even if you plan on carrying a .38.
