Bank robberies in the DFW area

Post by HighVelocity »

THere seems to be an outbreak of bank robberies in the area. I know that at this time of year there are some desperate folks out there. Let's be extra careful and not get caught off gaurd during the holidays.
Downtown Fort Worth bank robbedBy BILL MILLERStar-Telegram Staff WriterFORT WORTH -- A man in a black coat handed a note and a paper bag to a teller at the Bank of America in downtown Fort Worth on Thursday and fled with an undetermined amount of money, police said.
The robbery was the latest in a series of area holdups, including one by a man wearing a Santa jacket and red stocking cap earlier this week.
But this one was particularly brazen because it occurred shortly before the lunch hour in a high-traffic area. A Subway restaurant is among the businesses sharing the high-rise building with the bank.
Witnesses said the robber did not display a weapon, Lt. Dean Sullivan, a police spokesman, said in a news release.
The bank's holdup alarm summoned police about 11:30 a.m.
"The suspect fled the bank on foot with an undetermined amount of money," said Sullivan, who said no one was hurt.
Police described the suspect as a black male with an athletic build who appeared to be in his 30s and about 6 feet tall.
A sign reading "Bank Temporarily Closed" hung outside the bank's double glass doors in the building's lobby as police investigated the robbery Thursday afternoon.
The Bank of America building is at Seventh and Lamar streets, across from Burnett Park and the "Briefcase Man" sculpture.
A guard typically sits inside the Sixth Street entrance.
Law enforcement agencies have been dealing with several similar robberies at financial institutions in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
The "Santa" robber hit a Wachovia bank in Arlington on Tuesday. That suspect was described as white.
Officers in Dallas and Grand Prairie are searching for a woman who wore sunglasses while robbing four banks recently in those cities.
``Robbery, in general, does increase during the fall and through the holiday season," Sullivan said. ``... Robbery is a crime of desperation.''
But bank robberies, in particular, are not so easily pinned to a particular season, Sullivan said.
