Houston CHL holder kills robber at HEB

Post by JasonH »

I did a search and didn't see anything so I hope this isn't a repost.

HOUSTON -- A robbery victim turned the tables on his attacker in a grocery store parking lot, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Houston police said a gunman approached a man as he got out of his vehicle at the HEB store at Gulfgate on the South Loop East near the Gulf Freeway at about 10 p.m.

The gunman demanded money from the man, police said. The man decided to fight back.

"The complainant was able to draw his own weapon and shot and killed the suspect," Sgt. Robert Odom said.

..Police said he had a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon.

That's one for the good guys.

Would you like paper, plastic or black vinyl?

Wow,
The CHL holder must have really been alert and quick, to draw and shoot the gunman. I would guess the gunman had his gun drawn as he approached the victim. That is a tough situation even when you see it coming.

"Police said patrols in the area would be increased to keep shoppers safe." --- Sounds like it may be a little late to me.

I don't know what it is about grocery stores but they make me more nervous than Wal-Mart or the local mall. Just seems like the BGs like to lurk there. Sure seems like there are a lot more reports of incidents at grocery stores verse other places lately (if you discount bars of course).

"rlol"

It's interesting that the BG picked someone exiting his car rather than someone walking towards thier car with thier hands full :headscratch . It's a good thing that most BG's are pretty stupid :thumbs2: .

I'm glad that the victim was observant.

"Clean up on aisle three!"

I'd like to hear the story on how it all came down.

The video showed 11 police tags on the parking lot. It was reported the BG was shoot multiple times then attempted to get in an auto. This means that it took a very long minute or so for the BG to meet god or the other guy :reddevil? I need more training. Paper target do not move or shoot back.

In my experience, Wal-Mart parking lots have always seemed chronically under-lit at night (alway low prices, you know  ).

The major-label grocery store where I do most of my grocery shopping generally has sufficient lighting in the parking lot.

It reads like a righteous shoot so far. Good for the CHLer for helping liquidate the VCA pool. :thumbs2:

BTW, the Gulfgate area would be considered by some to be in a "rough" part of town.

Its not hard at all. Its called "Getting off the X". Most anyone can do it.

You step forward and accelerate off angle from him as you draw and shoot. You are then out the line of fire and its increasingly harder for him to bring his pistol onto you while he has bullets in him. In 3-4 seconds you should be behind cover and running away.
