CHL after Misdemenor

Post by Aggie78 »

First post so HOWDY!

Ok here is my question. I was convicted in 2003 of a Misdemenor A offence. Now I know that Texas will allow me to get my CHL after a 5 year wait but where I have a question is this. I went to trial on April 14, 2003 were I was convicted by a jury, I appealed the jury verdict and the verdict was upheld in July of 2006. I served 8 months probation and was released from probation in March of 2007. It was a non violent, non "Lautenberg" type offence so I have no problem with being disqualified.

My question is this.. is it 5 year wait from the April of 2003 original conviction, the July 2006 Appelate court decision, or the March 2007 release from probation?

Thanks in advance.

I would say it is 5 years from date of conviction - April '03.

The appeal throws a little twist into all this, but the release from probation has nothing to do with the 5 years. To be absolutely sure, give the DPS a call or an email and see what they say.

And, BTW, welcome to the forum!

They're closed today for President's Day, so it will be tomorrow before you get a response.

I got my reply from TXDPS.

They say to use my April 2003 date. So looks like I am going to get my licence in May!

Thanks for those that replied!
