The Training division has gone to the B27 format after finding that the high central scoring ring of the txtp accentuated the tendency to overshoot the target. Any color is acceptable but TDPS is using a nice deep olive green that makes for nice photo backgrounds:

I plan on buying quite a few of these targets today, to get "Wife Unit" all ready for her renewal...

I really like the change. I think they focus better on center mass for personal defence practice. I tell my Mother & Wife over & over to shoot for score & pinpoint accuracy at the smally bulls eye targets. Take your time get sight picture right then squeeze don't jerk. You know the drill. For PD practice hit 4 times center mass fast & quit worrying about one ragged hole per mag. Pelvis shot in the 3 area of the old ones is better than missing high because you want every one in the heart or throat. When I cut practice targets out of cardboard I mark the pelvis area as good. Center mass is marked excellent, & the rest is marked a"hit". What say ye men of character

We do gain a few inches scoring this one. Of course, we loose the head but that will keep some of our hotshots from loosing five points in one whack.

But, my reply as simply a "Character", is that you are spot on. The old target trains you to shoot too high IMO. It is simply too "restrictive".

There are plenty of "goodies" below the diaphragm. What you don't want to do is "shoot around the edges".

I used the new targets in a CHL class for the first time yesterday. They presented somewhat of a problem in that, with tall shooters and a lower aiming point, the first 20 rounds (at 3 yards) would go through the X-ring and then hit the concrete floor in our little indoor range.

Not that bullets have not hit the floor before, but I did not want all of the students to have to do it intentionally. So, for the first 20 rounds, we folded the head backwards and raised the target on the carriers - so that bullets in the "5 zone" would go straight into the bullettrap. At 7 yards and beyond the target could be suspended normally - without good hits going into the bullet trap via "the richochet method".

I've shot the B27 plenty of times before, and as a tall guy have the same exact problem and close range. Sometimes I lower my body a little, but rolling up the head sounds like a better idea!

Wow! That sounds familiar!
Same thing here. I had one of my first 4 time (2yrs+4+4+5 now) students in class on Saturday. He is 6'9". His shots at the target on the 3 yard line impacted at the 7 yard line! It didn't cause any problems for our backstop fortunately. The floor will develop a nice patina over time ! It's an old nuclear fallout shelter and the 1950's era concrete is super-hard.

Based on these first 18 shooters, I noticed that no one shot over the shoulder anymore , and that the overall scores were a little higher but the groups were not as tight as with the TX-PT. The groups were longer , top to bottom, and slighty less wide than with the TX-PT. I think it's a good move. Sgt Ripp's would be proud.
