Indexing Pointers

Post by nedmoore »

I am looking for any tips from you guys on indexing. I have no problem indexing with my XD, it seems like second nature to me when handling that gun. Since I recently purchased a 1911, I am continuously catching myself with my finger on the trigger when handling it. I could be a little paranoid since I am new to 1911's, but I will take paranoid anytime when it comes to proper firearm handling. Any info. would be appreciated.

I guess you are talking about your trigger finger index?

For right handed shooters:
You can use the ejection port or the bump on the takedown lever as a reference pointfor the tip of your trigger finger. Keeping tension on you finger trigger will give you a distinct tactile reference.

My fingers may be longer than yours but my index finger rests very nicely on the side of the front of the trigger guard. Some range officers dont like it there though.

I can't stand the bump! Trigger guard feels ok but not as safe I assume. Might have to go with the ejection port.
