Sports Authority Clearance

Post by jmorris »

Don't normally shop at Sports Authority but stopped by tonight (Mar 19) looking for something. While there I ran by the camping/hunting section. I'd totally forgot that they sell ammo, let alone long-guns. Looking at their limited selection of ammo I thought I'd miss-read the price. $8.47 for a box of 50 .40 S&W CCI Blazers. Clerk said the CCI were on clearance. I asked about the white box Winchester and it was 16.XX, the clerk hesitated and then said, oh yeah, it's 15% off too. They also had three big tables full of clearance stuff in the department.

So you might want to check any Sports Authority near you.

Interesting... The Sports Authority nearest me stopped selling all firearm related items well over a year ago.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

This is in San Antonio, north side off of San Pedro. They had probably 40-50 shotguns and rifles, about 30-40 different boxes of rifle/handgun ammo, shotgun, ammo, holsters, targets, cleaning, etc. Most *not* on clearance.

I hadn't even been in one for at least a year so I have no idea if this is normal or what.

I went to Sports Authority today in Houston after reading this thread. White winchester 100 rounds of .40 was #32.00 plus 15% off. I passed. Looks like you ran into a good deal or a screw up that turned out to be a good deal for you! No blazer ammo.

Thanks, Ned. You saved me a drive! Both the SA's are almost an hour away.

The SA in Denton has long guns and ammo.

Their shot shells (Remington or Winchester, I cannot remember) was on for 15% off. Not great prices, but I did spot some 3 1/2 inch steel duck shot for $15 a box that I may go back for.

I did go by Cabella's last week and a case of 12g #8 is about $75. 50% up from August, when it was on for $40 to $49. Lucky I loaded up.

They had their Benelli SBE II on for $1199. I bought mine from Dick's for $1169 when I told them about SA's price.

I also saw a Beretta O/U for $899, on clearence from $1799.

I called the Sports Authority near San Pedro in San Antonio to ask about their ammo deal. The clerk said it was a 15% off sale on Winchester ammo only. I got a few quotes over the phone and it didn't sound like much of a sale. If I find time to make it in person I'll update my post (if necessary).

I went by the Sports Authority this morning and there was a Winchester sign on some ammo that said 15% off through tomorrow (3-22-08). Quite a few guns supposedly on sale, but the prices didn't strike me as low.

Lots of stuff on clearance, mostly camping, fishing and odds & ends.

Couldn't find someone to actually help me with ammo (behind the counter), but the price tags I could read weren't sufficiently low to motivate me to make a purchase anyway.

Ned, the SA on I-45 South of Bay Area Blvd. has Blazer ammo. We bought 9mm and .380 ammo at great prices for our area. We won't be going back to Wally World in our area, after our neighbor's Granddaughter was attacked there. There's another one on the other side of town, much farther away, that isn't on the Freeway that we may still want to visit. With the cost of gas these days, SA is a bargain for us!

I stopped at the one in southwest Fort Worth. They had very little pistol ammo left. I saw one box of WWB .40S&W. I asked for the price then pulled out my little cheat sheet. Walmart still beats their clearance price by $2. The guy said they'll price match it. So I bought that one last box of .40 WWB.
