Waiting on my Green Card approval - CHL ok?

Post by Rayden »

I know that there have been a few discussions here on CHL and legal residents etc., but I don't think I've seen one in my situation.

I am currently waiting for my Green Card approval. I've held my interview about a year and a half ago, but due to back logs I am still waiting for the final approval and the actual card, and have no clue how long that might take ... some took years I think :waiting: .

I've been studying, working, and living legally in the U.S. for 19 years (over half of my life since 1989) and have been living in Texas since 1992. I've purchased my last firearm a couple of months ago using my Alien number and a short wait for the FBI background check and everything came back fine ... so I know I can legally own a firearm :anamatedbanana .

Now on to the Texas CHL. I've registered online and got the package. One of the sheets states if I am not born in the country, then I will need to send in one of three items, which the first one states an Alien number (it did not say a document or anything, just the number). So I guess I am trying to see if anyone here has been in my situation and applied for the CHL. Or does anyone here know if I will get approved given my current situation.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

That would be your "A" number. It appears on all the documents you have from INS and, later, ICE.

I have not been in your situation, so I can't say if your A number will be sufficient for the CHL processing. Maybe one of the CHL Instructors on the Board can help.
The last train out of any station will not be filled with nice people.

Remember Newton and Azrak.

I don't see a citizenship or permanent resident requirement in 411.172 but if you have an INS registration number and can legally purchase and own a handgun it might be simpler to get a Utah license. http://bci.utah.gov/CFP/INS_Handout.pdf

The Utah license is less expensive too.
If you can read this, thank a teacher. If it's on the internet, thank a geek.
