This Wednesday night on TRU TV (formerly Court TV) they will be airing a new episode of their "Most Shocking" series. The promo for it is "Citizens Fighting Back".
I've seen a few episodes on this topic before. The stories run the gamut from people (mostly shopkeepers, probably because they are most likely to have security camera footage available) who fight back hand to hand, with improvised weapons, and all the way to people who use guns.
These incidents are interesting both from the "reality" aspect and also for allowing a glimpse into the psychological aftermath. The people fighting back hand to hand or with improvised bludgeons, etc. generally end up severely traumatized. In many cases, their efforts at fighting back are futile as the brutality of the criminal attack overwhelmes them.
In contrast, the people who fight back with guns tend to not only have much greater success, but are in a lot better shape afterwards. Frequently, their comments are along the lines of, "I just did what I had to do.", or something like that.
At any rate, I think it's playing Wed. night at 8 CDT. Check your local schedules.

What do you mean by "a lot better shape?" Do you mean physically, or emotionally? How to you arrive at this postulation?frankie_the_yankee wrote: In contrast, the people who fight back with guns tend to not only have much greater success, but are in a lot better shape afterwards. I assume that if a person carries, then they have thought about self defense and have drawn some lines in their mind about when to fight back and when not to. I guess this might make dealing with things a little easier. That being said, I’m sure that no matter how many times I thought about it and prepared for it, shooting someone will be traumatizing not just for the shooting itself but for any legal battle that might ensue afterwards.

I'm just going by a previous episode I once watched. Most of the people who fought back without guns came out of the situation beaten and traumatized, both pyhsically and emotionally.pt145ss wrote:What do you mean by "a lot better shape?" The people who fought back with guns tended to have much more success, and were less injured and less traumatized. In the episode I saw, they were quite matter of fact about explaining what they had done and why. They mostly seemed comfortable with what they had done and not emotionally traumatized to any significant extent.
But note that the interviews were not done in the immediate aftermath of the incident. It was evident that some time had passed. Likewise for the unarmed resistors too. But for those people, recounting the incident brought forth much more emotion and what looked like terror, as if they were going through the assault all over again.
And the stories tended to focus on shopkeepers - not CHLs. As I stated in my OP, there are much better chances of having video footage of something going down in a store than a random street encounter. Given that the medium is TV, visuals are a big part of any story they run.
Just my personal observations. I'm going to watch Wednesday night and see how things turn out.

The show did not live up to the initial promo "citizens fighting back". A total waste of time. Sorry guys.
