What To Do After???

Gentlemen / Ladies,
Please forgive my ignorance but in searching the forums I have been unable to locate a thread that addresses what to do after you have had to draw your weapon but not shoot? If the BG hauls it on out of there do you just reholster your weapon and move on, or call the local LEO? I hesitate to forward an opinon so am asking you folks.

I don't recall anything in the law that states you must call the police after an incident like that, but it probably would not be a bad idea to make a report over the phone just in case the BG tries it again with someone else.

In today's world, if you display a weapon in public, there's a very good chance of someone reporting it to the police. A witness may even think that you were unlawfully threatening the other person.

ElGato (CHL instructor who is a member of this forum) tells about one of his students who was threatened in a road-rage incident. He displayed his weapon, and the other driver backed off. The other driver then called the police to report the CHL holder, and he had a passenger who supported his version of the story.

"The first person to call 911 wins."

Every case is different.

In many cases, it is best to be the first one to complain. This sets you up as the victim. If you don't make a report, you are giving the BG a chance to call the cops himself, claim he was minding his own business and that, "... this guy pulled a gun on me."

But again, each situation is different and what makes for a good response in one case might not be best in another. In the end, you have to make your own judgement.

It is my suggestion to report the incident to Law Enforcement, would keep you away from a Reckless Conduct charge.

Thanks for the input folks, the call LEO was what I was guessing was the correct course of action. Hopefully I'll never have to find out first hand.
