You Might Be A Gun Enthusiast If...

Post by longhorn_92 »

I saw this on another list - I thought it was extremely funny. I had to take some off the list -

so feel free to add more to the list! It would great to see how many more we could add to the list.....

You Might Be a Gun Enthusiast If...

** you ever seriously thought about dabbing on a little Hoppe's #9 before going out on a date.
**...you cannot recall how many firearms you own.
**...you buy a gun that's just like that other gun you have except the barrel is 1/2" shorter (or longer).
**...you buy a gun at a shop only to find out you used to own it a couple of years ago.
**...you consider naming your unborn child Winchester or Remington.
**...you ever bought ammo in a caliber for which you have no gun, because you thought some day you MIGHT get a gun in that caliber.
**...you take your guns out of the safe each night and handle them, just so you can wipe them off before putting them away.
** ...you keep a loaded gun hidden in every room in the house, including the bathroom and kitchen, "just in case," and then keep one on you at all times just in case someone breaks in while you're in the hallway.
**...you consider it unpatriotic not to own at least one .45 and one .22.
**...you named your pocket pistol "Little Guy" and your 12 gauge "Big Jake."
**...you ever bought two brands of the same weight and type of bullet, just to see if one "shot better."
**...you take your wife on vacation to a gun show for your 10th Anniversary and she is as excited to go as you are.
**...you ever had to explain, "It's NOT the same gun, it's a variation!"

I'll start.

No offense, but I am not a gun nut. I realize it is in jest, and we really should laugh at ourselves, but IMHO, it is derogatory.

These days the term "nut" tends to make our opponents think we are unstable.

Please do not take this personally. If others want to join in, that is fine for them.

My apologies.....

If I have offended anyone - I'm sorry.

I am NOT a nut either - I enjoy guns as much as anyone here. I do see myself in some of these - I have a warped sense of humor - and if you can't laugh at yourself - then I don't want any part.

I'm a gun nut and proud of it. If we claim these terms, we will make them powerless. Other groups have done this with words that were formerly derogatory and are now humorous. Some of these terms would violate the forum rules, but see "super-crip."

Not only am I a gun nut, but I will add one.

You might be a gun enthusiast if you know the song about the one speech I remember is true because you have done that for your daughters.

For those of you who are not country fans, the song is by Rodney Atkins and is called "Cleaning this gun (Come on in, boy)".

I don't know the song, but I do know the term, and I are one.

In fact, I have often described myself in conversation with strangers as "a bit of a gun nut." You'd be surprised at how many fellow enthusiasts I meet that way. I appreciate anygun's point - that it paints us with broad strokes in an uncomplimentary light with antis; but the way I see it, they are already antis. My using the term won't make them into what they already are; and it is possible that my using the term to an anti may have a disarming effect (pun very much intended) by injecting a little humor into the conversation. Humor is an icebreaker and makes a more relaxed and intelligent conversation possible. At least that's what I've found to be my experience

...there's no way you can get by with only two gun safes
...you decide to sell a few guns to reduce the number of handgun calibers you shoot, and you claim success because you end up with all but one commercially available caliber...and it was .25 ACP
...you realize you can't think of a handgun manufacturer from whom you don't own at least one gun
...you have an entire spare bedroom devoted to reloading equipment, and another bedroom devoted to cleaning supplies and gun cases
...you get strange looks at the range because your range bag is a 60-inch-long footlocker welded to an industrial dolly
...you feel that having fewer than 16 magazines for any pistol is simply being under-equipped
...your wife finds speed loaders between your couch cushions like other people find loose change
...you know one of the features of the S&W M&P is easily-changed backstraps, but you felt it was better to have identical pistols and just leave the different backstraps in place
...there's a photograph of you on the wall of your local gun dealer, with "Customer of the Decade" written under it

And finally, the real indicator:

...you've seriously considered renting a U-Store-It place to house your unused holster collection

... you've lost weight just so your pistol won't print as much
... you carry a set of ear plugs in your pocket "just in case"
... your "gun stuff" folder in your favorites (Explorer users) is larger than all the other shortcut folders combined

Eh, I'm a gun nut I suppose. I've been thinking the name Colton would be good for my next kid, so I can call him colt. I have a neighbor who named their kid Winchester. Wife won't go for Glock, Sig, or Ruger.

Agreed. Its like how I view the use of the N word. People simply give words so much power as to incite rage. It's silly, it's simply a word.

Off topic maybe, but I gotta say it.

My son (5 years old) came home and asked about "the N word". Well, my wife and I have decided that we will answer all questions as honestly and accurately as we can because this kid is very inquisitive and it really goes over better if we can explain things as intellectually as possible. So I described the history and meaning of the word "nigger" and why some people thought it was offensive and that it wasn't a word that was used in polite conversation. I get to the end of all this and ask him if he has any questions and he comments that he understands about that word and it makes sense, but there is just one thing. What does "Nerd" mean? Don't assume you know what your kids are asking...

... if you start to pack up for moving to a new house, you find your "just in case" gun that you forgot was there.
... you find a gun lock not attached to a gun, and must check every gun in the house, only to realize that your wearing it.
... you spend more on ammo then you do on house payment, car payment, bills, food, and gas combined.
