Minute Maid Park

Post by dmac »

Uh...Ummm...Does anyone know whether or not Minute Maid Park has metal detectors or wands at the entrances?

Can't answer your question, but professional sporting events are off limits anyway.

So what goes on at Minute Maid that is NOT a professional sporting event?

They have guys that check your bags and purses for "guns" and "knives." They have little wands that they prod around in the bags and purses. What they are really doing is looking for food to confiscate so that you have to go into the county ballpark that you paid for and pay $7 for a coke and $10 for a hot dog. But they do not send you through metal detectors nor do they wave wands over your bodies. Although that's not to say that they won't ever do that. I got wanded over going to the summit about 5 years ago.

Minute Maid Park is the home stadium for the Astros. Carry is already banned at professional sporting events, so I can't imagine what other events he might be attending there.

Is the astrodome still there? I only go thru Houston to fish out of galveston from Dallas. If it is still there, what is it used for, always liked that place.

I think the dome is used strictly as an incubator for mold these days It can be used to house hurricane refugees on occassion. Reliant stadium in the same plot of Land is where football is played.

Minute Maid Park has hosted several concerts over the years. Tours of the facilities. Visits to the Astros' shop at Union Station. Purchasing/picking up tickets to a later sporting event.

The last time I went to an Astros game, I was concerned about metal detectors, too, because I had to disarm (professional (theoretically) sporting event), but I kept my ammo on me, so that, if my car was stolen along with my gun, the thieves wouldn't also have some ammo immediately on-hand.
Remember, in a life-or-death situation, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

Rodeos are generally considered to be sporting events. Even hometown rodeos (such as the Wimberley rodeo around July 4th) involve cowboys competing on a circuit, and as such, it is a professional sport. I've been told of rodeos in Canada where the participants are paid a set wage rather than prize money, making it more of an entertaining show than a competitive sport. I've not heard of such a thing in existence here in Texas, so I'd say you can't carry. I'm not familiar with bullbashes, so can't comment on that one.

The participants at Bullbash are members of PRCA. That makes it off limits a Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association Sport.

Framers of the law never thought of those & the Professional Lumberjack Contests that are held at the Forest Festival here in Angelina County every yr. That one could reall wind up being a can of worms.
Forest Festival is a fair, rides, exhibits, food booths, high quality crafts for sale, & the Professional lumberjacks have an area set aside for their contests. Bleachers are there but not even a fence or gate to go through.

I have always wondered if you were not in the bleachers but standing w/ arms folded, squared up to the area, & evidently watching the ax throwing, would you be "attending" or passing by. :banghead:
