The Disadvantages of CHL

Post by Zero_G »

I guess I've been carrying regularly now for about a year, but I did run into one problem with concealed carry that I haven't seen mentioned on this board.

My wife and I went to a local steakhouse to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary (a major accomplishment in this day and age, if I do say so myself). After a huge meal, I was feeling majorly stuffed. However, I since I had my Glock 23 tucked into my waistline in my Minotaur holster, I couldn't loosen my belt for fear of 'getting the drop' on everyone around

After dinner we dropped into Academy and tried some various handguns on for size looking for one that fits her hand better than the Glock.

All-in-all, a very enjoyable evening!

I've eaten a few big meals on special occasions in the little over a year that I've been carrying. I've never had a problem loosening my belt. Where do you carry? I do have to admit that I've never carried in a tuckable IWB holster, so there may be special challenges that I'm not aware of.

I want an Infadel, but the selection for a Hi-Power is limited - Comp-Tac doesn't make a Hi-Power version of the Infadel holster yet. I was told they were "working on it" at Forum Day last year, but have yet to see them come out with it. :grumble Perhaps the Minotaur will fit my needs. I need to call them up and make sure it will fit the non-beveled slide of the Argentine Hi-Powers.

CompTac does make the MTAC for the BHP and the kydex can always be warmed near the muzzle end and reformed to the Argy slide if needed. A hair dryer will warm it enough to reform with out over heating it.

While the part about not being able to loosen my belt was somewhat tongue-in-cheek, there is some truth to it too. I wear my IWB at the 3 - 4 o'clock position (the most forward part of the gun is at 3 o'clock or just a bit farther aft). I do tend to tighten up my belt more when I carry or the gun rides low and I wind up hiking it up, something I don't want to do in public. I probably could have loosened up a bit without fear of dropping trou. I thought it made it a fun story.

Thanks for all the kind wishes on the anniversary!

The one you mentioned directly was a tighter mid-section after a big meal, but you failed to mention the second that you described AFTER that one... Spending MORE money on firearms.

It really is a rather expensive "habit". ;-]

I've had two pistols for about 7 years now. Only recently did I start participating on these forums. Already, I feel a need to go out and get another one. Some people do drugs, some people get tattoos. Others. Well, we get firearms. =-D

I agree with that!

You know, I keep telling that to my wife, but she just continues to roll her eyes when I scratch in front of her. ;-]

Be careful about scratching itches when it comes to guns. See http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... &sk=t&sd=a :smilelol5:
