Local news article on CHLs

The NRA & TSRA are a bargain; they're much cheaper than the cold, dead hands experience.

I'm glad I got mine when it wasn't "Cool" and I only had to wait 6 weeks or so. The renewal about the same.

I've still got 2 years left this time around. Do you think I should go ahead and take my renewal class now & send it in? I don't want to have to wait 9 months to a year for my renewal to get approved. :headscratch

(I'm only half joking).

Some erroneous info in that article for example;

QUOTE: no-carry zones Even for concealed handgun license holders there are certain place where weapons are prohibited.Businesses that derive 51 percent or more of their income from alcohol consumed on premise (liquor stores are OK)Sporting or scholastic eventsCorrectional facilitiesAmusement parks Places of worship Hospitals or nursing homes End Quote

The article doesn't mention anything about these areas having ot be 30.06 posted

I liked (not) this piece of psychobabble:
"Perception may also play a role in local CHL increases said Don Stanley, chair of behavioral sciences and professor of psychology at Lone Star College-North Harris.

“If you watch the news, that’s all you hear, he said, referring to bad news about the economy and cost of living. “You don’t hear about the good things.
Good news is fine. It's wonderful when the high-school football team wins and the city has a budget surplus and cuts taxes, but that doesn't change the fact that predators are wiling to kill, rape, and kidnap.

For a renewal, your TR-100 must be dated no more than six months before the expiration date of your license.

Why is that, anyway? There are some people who know they will be out of state or out of the country for a long time (soldiers, astronauts, Antarctic scientists), and may need to renew early.

Overall I thought the article was surprisingly good for the cause...Albiet some of the personal preferences stated in there and some of the erroneous "technical" info...

We got some very sharp and observant folks here to catch all that stuff anyway...

We've all seen some horribly written stuff in the past, but this one I would file away as being in the medium to good catagory...

Just my opinion...

the reporter, Josh, was a really nice guy and had an extremely open mind. his wife actually grew up in france i believe and she's totally against guns and he explained to us that it would be nearly impossible to get her up there. We also got him in the shooter's box and let a few rnds down range, he seemed to of really enjoyed himself and we enjoyed having him at Shiloh that saturday morning.
