Mesquite Gun Show

Post by Liko81 »

The show was this past weekend at the Mesquite Rodeo (actually in the convention hall they have in an adjacent building). Anyone else go? For $7 it was a very nice show with a decent selection. I wish I could have found a slightly better deal on a gently-used .45 TDA, but Sig and S&W are the only two major brands to offer one (oh, and Ruger's P345, but the only ones available were new and I wouldn't have saved much there vs at the Bullet Trap).

I didn't walk out empty-handed; I got (I think) a good deal on a Mossberg 500 8-shot with M4-style collapsible tac stock and barrel shroud (thus truly placing it in the realm of the EBS  ), for $300. The extra tube space (even with 3" shells) and the tac stock made that one worth it; The other Persuader models I'd been considering until then were 6-shot and would have needed the aftermarket tac stock, or were $350-375 with the tac stock. Course, when it's 00 Buck (I went with Winchester Super X loads; the local Academy didn't have Federal and I forgot to look for buckshot at the show), all you should need it one, but...

I also picked up a tuckable IWB holster for my P95 (those who say you can't conceal a Ruger P in summer clothes, you're wrong :coolgleamA:). It's pretty simple; it's a cloth pancake (kinda irritating against bare skin; best to have an undershirt) with your average reinforced webbing clip holder and metal clip; but the holder is stiff and only secured to the holster at the bottom, so the shirt can be tucked in between the holster and clip holder. It does a pretty good job; I just have to figure out how to unconceal it quickly. I'm used to 1:00 IWB with an untucked shirt so it's just lift and draw.

I will post pics once i get them uploaded to PhotoBucket, so chill for now.

And because you've been such goodboys and girls, here are some pics (WARNING: LARGE PICS AHEAD)

Here's ol' Mossy:

And just because I've never posted a pic of it, here's my daily carry:

"Impossible", you say? Not with this holster:

It hides, it tucks, it works at 1:00 or 4:00, and with a slightly bloused shirt I have to bend over and touch my toes before I print.

What is it? Who makes it? Where do you get it?

I got mine at the gun show. They also have a website; here's the page with the tuckable: http://www.wrbss.com/inpahounsh.html

They're selling here for $29.95; I got mine for $30 even and didn't have to pay shipping. They're made in Gun Barrel City, TX :thumbs2: so you can't go wrong.

Thanks for the response -- can you reholster without taking it off? (easily?)

Well, it's a pancake, but given that and the fact you have to untuck to get to it, it's decently easy to reholster. Just do what everyone recommends and buy your pants a couple inches bigger, then don't cinch your belt too tight, and you'll have enough breathing room to fit the gun back in. I practiced with it a bit on Saturday night, but I was more concerned about getting to it quickly as you generally only reholster when you have sufficient time to do so.

Nice shotty. I picked up a Mossberg 590a1 Thursday. It is the 20" with a hi-vise front sight, barrel shroud, 8 round magazine, and 4 round speed feed stock, and a tactical scope mount that is connected to the receiver. I need a side saddle so I can carry more than the 13 rounds in it now. lol

I have one of the holster like the one you bought. I used to carry a Keltec PF9 in it an dit did pretty good. I did not like that it was not canted but it worked well for a small gun. I don't know how well it would do with a larger frame gun like your Ruger.

It does a decent job. As far as canting, since it just has a single clip, it can be fudged a little into a slight forward cant.

I have an IWB 'holster' that I love -- but is have the serious flaw of being nearly impossible to re-holster (without removing it and just putting the firearm in it, then putting both back -- not hard, but not a one handed or subtle operation.)

The two issues I have with failure to reholster are:

1) Hard to practice repeated draws, and imposisble to use at a competition, so practice must be with non-carry equipment.

2) If it is every used, on cannot (easily) put a HOT gun in one's pocket instead of the holster -- trying to re-holster if you show it and the threat goes away is a bit sticky too, but not as bad.
