Can Local Cities pass laws over ruling the State?
Just heard about one of the small towns here in North Texas is going to pass a local law stating you can not carry a hand gun in your car. Was told it also includes those who have a current CHL license. Does anyone know if local Cities can enforce such a law in Texas?
Thanks
Thanks

Completely not legal. State trumps local. I wonder how one would go about challenging it though...

If such a law was passed in a Texas City, I propose that everyone registered on this Site, along with many from other Sites, organize a peaceful demonstration in the center of the offending City. It would be interesting to see a good turnout by ALL CHL holders (+/-300,000) in a City of 4 or 5,000 Population. It would be a joke watching the Chief LEO and his 10 Staff respond to such a PEACEFUL demonstration of that number of people legally carrying with several back-up's in every vehicle.
Of course the Governor of the Great State of Texas would intervene and send in the National Guard..............to arrest the City Leaders!
I doubt that it would have to go that far. I am sure the TSRA would be on top of something like this before the ink dried. Would be fun to participate though!

I will try and get more information tomorrow. May place a call to that City to get the story direct from them.

Aubrey is about 15 miles from me. That's good.......I wouldn't have to drive very far to attend the demonstration!

They had a population of about 1500 at the 2000 census. It wouldn't take too much effort to overwhelm the poor town.

There's a GREAT family/country style restaurant called Betty's Cafe there!

Even has pictures of John Wayne on the walls!
Hard to believe a City with the title of "Horse Country - USA" would even consider such a foolish move.
Gotta be some City Official that just moved there from D.C.

They are just a wee bit north of Ft. Worth and Dallas..I am sure just the CHL holders of those two large cities could overwhelm then quick and in a hurry

Please update us if you get any information on this. If it's true, I'll send an Open Records Request.tonyh wrote:I will try and get more information tomorrow. May place a call to that City to get the story direct from them.
