Man To Be Charged With Aggravated Robbery

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Police said a desk clerk shot a man who was attempting to rob an east side motel on Saturday night.

Officers said that shortly before 9:30 p.m., a man walked into the Super 8 Motel, located at 2055 Brice Rd., showed a gun and demanded money.

Police said the desk clerk on duty then shot the alleged robber, Antoine Stephens.
Stephens, 20, was transported to Grant Medical Center and was in serious condition on Sunday morning, NBC 4 reported.

Police said he would be charged with aggravated robbery.

The motel clerk's name was not released. It was unclear as to whether he would be charged.

Uses the clerk to mask the draw...

What got me is the mother and baby in the picture are pretty calm during the incident...They needed to be pulled back behind the counter quicker I think...

Apparently the robber is serving 7 years right now. Was his 3rd conviction... second robbery of the night.

Good showing by the guy with the Glock. 3 shots and 3 hits.

Whoa.

That guy has some big brass ones to open fire with an infant between him and the BG (although indirectly). He must have really felt like the BG was going to shoot.

No kidding! What the heck was she thinking?? I would have been on the floor with that baby before the second shot left the barrell!

I think the video does a good job of showing the challenges CHL's might face in a shootout.

Clueless people standing around in the middle of a gunfight, instead of seeking cover or hitting the deck... having play along with the criminal and to draw from concealment quickly... having to shoot at a moving target where bystandars(including children) are present... and having an armed BG take 3 rounds of .40 cal Golden Sabre... and still make it out the door before he collapsed.

The CHL performed very well in an extremely challenging environment. Hat's off to him.

Well, I've been taught that shooting a BG in the back is a no no because he no long poses an immediate threat. But this is why we are all here. To learn. I know I'm still a noob in all this.

KinnyLee,

Understandable confusion. Lots of people on ARFCOM had similar comments to you. Normally when BGs are running and have no property, they are not legal to shoot. However if they've got a gun in hand and already threatened you with it, they are still a danger at a distance. And could possibly shoot at you as they ran. Therefore the good guys were still in danger.

You would think the moment the BG showed the gun and commenced the robbery the woman would have at least moved her kid away from him.

As for the BG running away while being shot, I was thinking the same thing, against the law to shoot him in the back. Thanks for the info.

If the BG is running down the street, or jumping into a waiting getaway car, it's less arguable that he's a threat. But when he's got a gun, he's threatened you with it, and he's still in the same room, he's fair game as far as I'm concerned, even if he turns his back.

Ronnie Earle might not buy it, but I would.
