An armed robber demanded cash and opened fire when the victim said he had no money. I've seen this kind of thing before. It's completely senseless, but it happens.
"Man shot to death in robbery attempt
An armed robber fatally shot a man late Monday at a northwest Harris County service station, authorities said. The gunman confronted Juan Palacios, 47, shortly after 10:30 p.m. at a Shell station in the 11900 block of Aldine Westfield. He demanded cash but opened fire when Palacios said he had no money, Harris County Sheriff's deputies said. Witnesses told investigators they saw the gunman flee in a small black car. Palacios was pronounced dead on arrival at LBJ Hospital, deputies said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff's homicide division at 713-967-5810 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS."
