Conflicting Gun Signs In Stores

Please help me make sense of the fact that many convenience stores have two seemingly conflicting gun signs posted. You've all seen them:

1) This one says "The unlicensed possession of a fire arm on these premises is, etc, etc

2) This one says "It is unlawful to have a firearm where ever alcohol is served, sold, or consumed"

I'm paraphrasing, of course, but these very common signs seem contradictory to me.

Were these both in Texas? The first one I have seen. The second one is not correct and just because it is on a sign doesn't make it enforceable.

Those signs are from the TABC (texas alcoholic beverage commission) and have nothing to do with the ability to legally carry a firearm in the place. I had to hang those signs up in my restaurant, too. The #2 sign is the older version of the #1 sign from the TABC. My instructor for my CCL class last Sunday verified this for me, too. The only signs that mean anything to CCL holders are the 30.06 sign and the 51% sign. Which the 51% sign is only good for consumption of alcohol not sold alcohol, which means convenience and liquor stores would be legal to carry in and why bars and some restaurants are not. Now with this being said, an individual has the right not to allow legal carry in its business, but all they could do is ask you to leave.

Yes. I see both these signs in San Marcos at many convenience stores. I think the post above this one explained the situation, but it is still troublesome to me to carry into a store with a sign that says I can't carry--even if that sign is meaningless.

Here is the section regarding posting the signs from TABC's website in case anybody hasn't seen it. Pretty much means it's only off limits if you see that 51% staring at you or a 30-06. The rest just pertains to people who are illegally carrying it just bumps it up to a felony. Our family runs a winery in downtown Mansfield so I have become very familier with TABC. We are legal for CHL holders

Sec. 11.041. WARNING SIGN REQUIRED. (a) Each holder of a permit who is not otherwise required to display a sign under Section 411.204, Gov’t. Code, shall display in a prominent place on the permit holder’s premises a sign giving notice that it is unlawful for a person to carry a weapon on the premises unless the weapon is a concealed handgun of the same category the person is licensed to carry under Section 411.204, Gov’t. Code.

Unfortunately, the lack of a sign doesn't get a CHL holder off the hook. It's illegal to carry in a 51% establishment even if there is no sign.
