My 2nd IDPA match, much better than the first.

Post by HighVelocity »

I shot my second match this evening. It was a blast (pun intended).
This time I didn't have the anxiety that I did the first time. I felt relaxed and comfortable.
There were 27 shooters and we ran 4 stages in 3 hours.

Equipment:

Springfield Armory 5" loaded 1911 (45acp)
Wilson 47D mags
Remington 185gr fmj ammo (folks told me there was big muzzle flash from this ammo but I never saw it)
cheapo Uncle Mikes kydex paddle holster
Comp-Tac mag holders
Wilderness Tactical 5 stitch belt
5.11 vest

Luckily, I have become friends with one of the RO's since this is my home range and he has been really patient with me. I need to hear the instructions a couple of times.

The first stage I had zero and no procedurals. This got me pretty excited since my last match was full of mistakes and not so steller shooting.
The second stage I got 3 shots in the +1 zone, no procedurals.
Third stage 2 shots in the +1 zone, no procedurals and the 4th stage zero and zero.
When I left all the score sheets were tallied up and laying in a line on the counter. I'm sure they will be rechecked before the scores are posted on the club website but unofficially I came in 7th out of 27 overall.
I do not know where I placed in my class as there were a whole bunch of CDP shooters but they didn't have the sheets layed out by class. Still, 7th makes me VERY happy. My first match (last month) I was 16th out of 31.

So now I guess I'm smitten with IDPA. Just what I need, another money sucking hobby.

Thanks Jason. I had a great time. Since my IDPA gun has the XS big dot sights on it and they seem to be working well for me, I decided I'm going to put them on my GI model as well to have as a backup at the matches.

Sounds to me like you did very well for a second match. When I look at scores I don't look at the division that I shoot in I always compare myself to the overall group. But I have never shoot anything except local matches.
