I have no idea why they laugh. That is a quality arm.
Only thing I can think of at all is they may be 1911 purists. That makes the double stack & the DA a perversion.
I would not have a problem one carrying one.

They probably just think it might as well be a glock since it strays so far from the traditional 1911 format. I've seen one of those and it looked pretty sweet to me. Ignore them...whatever works for you.

I feel your pain. When I worked as a range officer, many years ago, I was practically laughed off the range the day I showed up carrying a Glock 19. Glock was very new back then. The 19 was a "new model".
My coworkers were all dyed in the wool 1911 fans. I like 1911's too but knew a good thing when I saw it. Don't let anyone tell you what's good and what's not. It's your choice, stand by it.
I am scared of empty guns and keep mine loaded at all times. The family knows the guns are loaded and treats them with respect. Loaded guns cause few accidents; empty guns kill people every year. -Elmer Keith. 1961

Well, since every here apparently agrees, I will have to be the one to relieve you of your misery. Just mail me the para and I will send you my Taurus 1911. That way they will have no reason to laugh anymore. And when you tell them you did not have to pay for it at all, it should make them jealous.

I don't mind if my fellow officers laugh at me for the para. I keep the qualification records.

I have other pistols I could carry, but I have been toting my Para P-13 for the last 12 yrs. Let 'em laugh.

Once in a while I will take the SP-101 out for a spin, but my Para gets the nod 99% of the time.

lunchbox,

A lot of the time coworkers will do what they can to tease and torment the 'new guy' for fun and to see if they can get your goat. If they see it is working (and apparently it is) they will continue. Don't let take it personal, it is usually just common coworker jibbing. Just laugh along with them, tell them you like the gun, you like having the extra capacity and mags, and will continue to carry it as you are comfortable with it and have no trouble from it. However, let them know you will be happy to carry a Kimber if they give you one for free as an employee bonus! ;-)

Well, if they don't like Taurus, they just have no taste. And if they prefer Kimbers to the same pattern in a Taurus, they have, as my mother used to say, more money than common sense. And you can tell them that this is my official opinion of them too.

Joke back with them and they will probably slack off, as keith B was saying. We do that a lot with new guys in law enforcement too. And some of our jokes get downright nasty sometimes. Cops have a lower or more twisted sense of humor than most people.

From what I've read on various forums, it's the Kimbers' relaibility and functioning that people seem to complain about; not the Paras.

That's true. I've seen a few "Kimber malfunctioning" threads on forums, but no "Para" or "Taurus malfunctioning" threads.

Probably the same kind of guys who will laugh at you for bringing Winchester White Box to the range or for shooting a Kel-tec (that you can draw a smiley face on the target with).

Besides, you've got to learn not to take things so seriously. You should have seen the junk we pulled on the newbies in the Army.
