Thanks to agbullet2k1 for posting Study: Gun shows do not increase homicides. It was a great read. I was able to find this story. I did not want to hi-jack that thread so here it is.
That was a pretty good article. Then I saw another story titled “Smart Guns”. I thought cool. Sci-Fi meets reality. From old school paper and dice role playing games such as Shadowrun and MechWarrior. The premise behind them is to keep another person form using your firearms if it was forcefully taken away from you. It gets deeper than that would that’s the gist. This would be great for military and law enforcement. I was kind of excited so I read the article. I quicky became discusted and irritated. This was marketed to Police and military but to Parents with Dangerous guns in the house. The story went on to say Guns and kids don’t mix. They quoted “but the National Safety Council reports nine children are killed every day from gun violence.” But didn’t explain that this statement also included gang related activities and murders. Not AD/ND from an unsecured firearm. They still added that it won’t replace talking to your kids but it was like a 2 sentence deal out of 14 paragraph article.(“Experts say smart gun technology might someday help prevent tragedy but can't replace talking to your kids.”) And that was it. Otherwise it was pretty much bias that guns and Kids are bad and should never mix mentality.
So much for new technology going to some practical use that it was thought up long ago for. Here is the article if anyone cares to read it.

Re: Smart Guns - Sci-Fi Meets Reality
We don't need "smart" guns, we need smart/responsible gun owners. What happens if the kid needs the gun to protect him/herself? Or their parents? Is the gun going to know that the kid needs to protect his/her family and UNlock? How about voice activation. Hell, instead of OnStar, how about GunStar.

Heh. One of my brothers-in-law is a Chevy salesman, and was showing us his new truck (he upgrades every year). He was going on and on and on about how great and cool OnStar is, and tried to demonstrate the voice dialing.Furyataurus wrote:heck, instead of OnStar, how about GunStar.![]()

Well... let me just say that he would have been faster, less distracted from the road, and definitely more successful in his attempts to dial a phone number, if he'd just whipped out a cell phone and punched the number in. Or even scrolled through a looooong list before hitting the "dial" button.
There are some things that aren't improved by technology.

I just took my Level III commissioned security class, and the instructor told me that Obummer is trying to make it to where all new firearms are produced with this type of technology. Even for civilian use!!!
