Interesting article in the Austin-American Statesman

Post by NcongruNt »

I was reading through the paper today on my lunch break. Ordinarily, I skip the "Life & Arts" section, because it is generally filled with useless blather. An article on the front page, however, piqued my interest. They had interviewed 3 couples who had lived their childhood years in the Great Depression. It was an interesting piece on living within your means. What stuck out to me most (and makes this a gun-related article) was this quote:
"My brother was 12, and every day my father would give him a rifle to take to school, and whatever he killed on the way home was the meat we had for dinner,"
Imagine that. Kids taking rifles to school with them so they could go hunting afterwards so the family had dinner. It's a long ways we've fallen in this country. Nowadays the guns are evil, and these same parents who are struggling in hard times would have their children taken away from them for endangerment and neglect. :???:

A priceless article. Surely over the heads of many younger people today. They're in for a rude awakening now.
