1871 - The National Rifle Association was founded in New York City.

The most prominent founders were Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate, veterans of the War Between the States, who were dismayed by the lack of marksmanship ability among their inductees. The focus of NRA's early efforts was military marksmanship.

Even in the 1870s, a nascent "gun control" movements was forming in some cities and states. The NRA did not begin to pay serious attention to legislation until the bills that became the National Firearms Act of 1934 were passed.

1963 - Jack Ruby fatally shot Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas.

Though many theories are circulated about Ruby's motivation, I am not convinced by any of them. The reason may remain a mystery forever.

1971 - Hijacker D.B. Cooper parachuted from a jet over Washington state with $200,000 in ransom. No final determination of what happened to him has ever been made. Recently discovered evidence suggests that he may have died near where he landed.

I believe you are a few days late. From the NRA website:

After being granted a charter by the state of New York on November 17, 1871, the NRA was founded.

You are right about the NRA web site.

I don't know why November 24 is in the newspaper, but that's what I start with.

And thus, the first season of the show Prison Break. he was the old guy that wanted to see his little girl, but died in one of the last episodes of the first season.

Today the FBI announced that they had unearthed a new lead in the DB Cooper case, which they never closed.

If they are correct, the man lived under an alias somewhere in the U.S. for about 30 years. He is now deceased.

.....apparently deceased some 10 years ago. I am actually disappointed. The FBI won't say who the suspect is/was, and I'm dying of curiosity.

Although the suspect is dead and can't complain if the FBI is mistaken, you can't fault them for being careful. The guy may have had a family, and the media would be all over them when his identity comes out.

Also DB Cooper (whoever he really was) made off with $200,000 of some insurance company's money, which may still be subject to recovery. (Probably the individual bills could be sold as mementos for more than their face value now.)
