Are MAC 10s legal???

I happened to see a post for a MAC 10, which I think is a 9mm
and I always thought these were fully automatic

If it is, I'd be interested in having one to keep in the
house, strictly for home invasion protection...to fend
of numerous characters of ill reput who might try
coming in the door all at once.

I'f read about situations such as this and I think
the MAC 10 fully automatic would greatly increase
one's ability to succesfully send these guys packin.

Question is...is this thing even legal?

If it's semiauto it's no different than any other pistol. If it's a properly registered machinegun it's legal but things get a lot more complicated.

Just stay away from any kits that make it fully automatic if I'd like to keep my life simple, right?

Any machine gun that isn't registered by proper means is illegal, regardless of where it is. In your car, in your home, buried in the ground.

Fully-automatic is legal to own in Texas, but you have to jump through the hoops, so-to-speak.

Prices are ridiculous as well, although I will say that mine has turned out to be a very nice investment. From what I recall, the MAC-10 should be .45 ACP. I own a full-auto MAC-11 9mm, it's a BLAST to shoot! Would it work for stopping multiple attackers? SURE! Would I use it for that? Probably not - it's really best to lock up an NFA item - it's not something that you want to be easily accessible to others. I'd suggest sticking to a 12-ga or your preferred pistol, but that's my opinion.

OK, I'll admit...that's the part that had me dreaming about it a bit.
But if it's such a pain, I'll pass.

I'll be honest with you, getting a machine-gun, for me, was easier than getting my TX CHL, a WHOLE lot less paperwork. Usually the toughest part is the ATF Form 4 Chief Law Enforcement Officer sign-off (although some choose to go the Trust/LLC/Incorporation route, I don't have any experience with that though).

The MAC-10 that you linked to looks like a semi-auto - I say that because of the lack of a folding wire shoulder stock, although that may have been removed - but also looking at the bolt assembly, it appears different than the full-auto version.

a. That is a MAC 10 clone...it is .45ACP
b. Its semi-auto only
c. Its made my Vulcan Manufacturing in Duluth MN
d. I have 2 for sale! ($400 apiece comes with 1 mag and hardcase (I have 5 spare M3 greasegun mags 30 rounders for $25 apiece))
e. The MAC 11 is 9mm
f. They weight 8.5lbs apiece EMPTY!! That's almost as much as a standard M-16A2 service rifle! (you better have some strong biceps)

If you're interested in one, I've got a friend who has one to sell. I don't recall how much offhand, but I think he wants somewhere in the neighborhood of $3000 or $4000 for it. Yes, it is a NRA registered firearm, and you'll have to do all the paperwork to buy it.

I shot it on one occasion. It was fun, but FA is more novel than anything for me, so I have no interest in purchasing one myself. It WAS kinda neat to put a bunch of subsonic rounds through it with a suppressor and no earplugs, and suppressors are on the list of NFA items I would be interested in purchasing one day.

If you've got lots of money to blow, he's got a couple of UZIs that he wants to sell, one unfired.

I wouldn't touch a Vulcan "Machineguns of the Special Forces" with a 10-foot pole - Robert Hesse aka Blackthorne Arms aka Hesse Arms et al. I'll leave it up to the individual to do a Google for themselves

Absolutely...simple and easy to operate/maintain...built to take abuse. That's why I like them! The funny thing is they were originally $200 or so when first introduced, now they are worth AT LEAST 15x that! Crazy.

No the STEN is crude...at least the MAC has a shape!
